Google has introduced Ask Google Pay, a new Gemini-powered AI chatbot inside the Google Pay app in India. The feature brings a conversational AI experience to the digital payments platform, allowing users to analyse spending patterns, understand financial concepts and receive personalised recommendations.
The rollout has started for select users and Google says it will expand availability to more users soon.
Ask Google Pay analyses your spending
Ask Google Pay uses Google’s Gemini AI models to answer questions based on a user’s financial activity. To access the feature, users must enable the Personalisation setting within the Google Pay app.
Once enabled, users can ask questions such as how much they spent last month or where most of their money went. The AI chatbot analyses transaction history and presents the information using charts, spending categories and key observations.
It also suggests ways to improve spending habits based on individual payment patterns.
AI explains financial concepts and recommends offers
Beyond spending analysis, Ask Google Pay can explain financial topics in simple language. Users can ask about concepts such as SIPs, credit scores, compound interest or the differences between India’s tax regimes.
The chatbot can also recommend relevant offers and suggest suitable credit card options based on a user’s spending behaviour.
Google says the AI can reference transaction history and credit report data to deliver more personalised responses. The company adds that users’ financial data remains protected while generating these insights.
Supports 10 Indian languages
Google has designed Ask Google Pay for Indian users with support for 10 Indian languages.
Users can interact with the chatbot through either text or voice, making the feature more accessible across different regions and language preferences.
The company is rolling out the feature gradually, so not all users will see it immediately.
Google Pay Flex SBI Card also announced
Alongside the AI chatbot, Google announced the Google Pay Flex SBI Card, developed in partnership with SBI Card and built on the RuPay network.
The new card expands Google’s digital credit card portfolio in India following the launch of the Google Pay Flex Axis Card last year.
With Ask Google Pay, Google is bringing generative AI deeper into financial services. Instead of simply enabling payments, the app now aims to help users understand and manage their money through natural conversations powered by Gemini.
