WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows Android users to edit captions on their status updates after posting. The feature is currently rolling out to select beta testers and gives users a 15-minute window to fix typos or update text without deleting and reposting their photo or video status.
According to reports, the feature is available in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.30.1 and is expected to reach more testers before a wider release.
How does the WhatsApp status caption editing feature work?
The new WhatsApp feature is designed to make status updates more flexible. Instead of removing an entire status because of a spelling mistake or incorrect caption, users can simply edit the existing text within 15 minutes of posting.
The edit option reportedly appears in two places. Users can access it from the menu that lists their active status updates or by tapping a pencil icon displayed next to the caption. Both methods allow quick changes without affecting the attached photo or video.
Will viewers know the caption was edited?
Unlike edited WhatsApp messages, which display an “Edited” label, status captions reportedly will not show any indication that they have been modified.
Once the 15-minute editing period ends, the caption becomes permanent. Users who want to make changes after that will still need to delete the status and upload it again.
The feature is currently available only to a limited number of Android beta testers through the Google Play Store. Based on WhatsApp’s usual rollout pattern, more beta users are expected to receive it in the coming weeks before a broader public release.
