Google has introduced Lyria 3.5, the latest version of its AI-powered music generation model, bringing more natural vocals, richer melodies and improved creative controls for users. The upgraded model is rolling out through Flow Music, Google’s AI music creation platform, and aims to make AI-generated songs sound more expressive while giving creators greater control over the final output.
The launch builds on Google’s growing investment in generative AI tools for musicians, content creators and developers.
Lyria 3.5 promises more natural AI-generated music
According to Google, Lyria 3.5 delivers noticeable improvements in melody composition, lyric generation and vocal quality.
The company says the model can create richer musical arrangements, produce lyrics that stay closer to user prompts and generate vocals with better pronunciation and expression.
Users can also fine-tune the tempo and duration of songs more precisely, making it easier to generate music that fits different creative projects.
Flow Music gets more powerful editing tools
Alongside the new AI model, Google is expanding the capabilities of Flow Music.
The platform now allows users to edit specific parts of a song without recreating the entire track. Creators can rewrite or translate lyrics, swap instruments and refine different sections while preserving the rest of the composition.
Google also highlighted conversational editing features first showcased at Google I/O 2026, allowing users to modify music using natural language commands.
These updates are designed to make AI-assisted music creation more flexible and accessible, especially for creators without formal music production experience.
Lyria continues to evolve
Google first introduced Lyria in 2023 through Google DeepMind as its dedicated AI music generation model.
Earlier this year, the company launched Lyria 3, enabling users to generate complete songs from text prompts, images and videos. The model could also create lyrics, vocals and cover art while offering controls for genre, mood and tempo.
Google later introduced Lyria 3 Pro, extending song length to three minutes and adding more advanced creative controls for paid Gemini subscribers.
The technology has since expanded to products including YouTube Shorts through Dream Track and Google Vids, where it powers AI-generated background music.
Gemini support remains unconfirmed
While Lyria 3.5 is now available through Flow Music, Google has not confirmed whether the upgraded model will replace Lyria 3 Pro across Gemini or its developer platforms.
The company also said different subscription tiers of Google AI Plus, AI Pro and AI Ultra users will receive access to different Flow Music features.
As AI-generated music continues to improve, Lyria 3.5 marks another step in Google’s efforts to make professional-quality music creation more accessible through generative AI.
