WhatsApp is testing a fresh visual update for iPhone users, introducing more rounded message bubbles and a cleaner chat interface. The redesign, currently available to select beta testers, aligns with Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language and makes conversations look more modern.

The update was first spotted in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.29.10.70, available through Apple’s TestFlight programme.

Rounded chat bubbles bring a cleaner look

According to WABetaInfo, the updated interface replaces WhatsApp’s existing chat bubbles with softer, more rounded shapes.

While the change is subtle, it gives chats a cleaner appearance that closely resembles Apple’s iMessage interface. The refreshed design also complements the translucent aesthetics introduced with Apple’s Liquid Glass UI.

For everyday users, the update won’t change how WhatsApp works, but it does make conversations feel visually lighter and more polished.

Photos and videos lose their borders

Another noticeable change affects media sharing.

Instead of appearing inside traditional message bubbles, photos, videos and GIFs are now displayed without surrounding borders. This gives media a more immersive appearance and helps it stand out within conversations.

The redesign is currently limited to select beta users, although some people running the stable App Store version have reportedly started seeing the new interface as well.

More WhatsApp features are on the way

The refreshed chat design is one of several updates currently in development.

Recent reports suggest WhatsApp is also working on replacing its existing two-step verification PIN with a password-based authentication system. In addition, the messaging platform has been expanding support for usernames across both Android and iOS, allowing users to connect without sharing their phone numbers.

These changes indicate that Meta continues to refine both the visual experience and privacy features of WhatsApp as it prepares future updates.

When will it roll out?

WhatsApp has not officially announced a public release date for the redesigned interface.

However, since testing has already begun through TestFlight, the feature is expected to reach more iPhone users over the coming weeks before becoming widely available.
