Lava has launched the Lava Virat V1 Pro at ₹15,999, building on the Virat V1 with upgraded features for everyday smartphone users. The phone focuses on reliable performance, fast connectivity and accessible AI tools designed to simplify daily tasks, alongside a clean, bloatware-free software experience. It also packs a Unisoc T8200 processor, a 6,000mAh battery and an IP64 rating. But how well do these features translate into everyday use, and does the Virat V1 Pro offer enough to stand out in the competitive budget smartphone segment? Let’s find out.

Design

The Lava Virat V1 Pro comes in the Sikkim Midnight colour variant, which has a shiny finish that catches attention. The reflective rear panel gives the phone a distinctive look, while the squarish camera island adds some character to the design. It houses the 50-megapixel primary camera, an auxiliary lens and an LED flash, arranged within two pill-shaped sections. Lava also offers the phone in a Spiti Forest colour option.

The phone has a large, wide body that takes some getting used to. It measures 8.68mm in thickness and weighs 207g, making it substantial in the hand. The overall construction remains manageable for everyday use, although one-handed operation can be challenging for users with smaller hands. The glossy rear surface also attracts fingerprints, so you may need to wipe it regularly to keep the finish looking clean.

On the front, the Virat V1 Pro features a tall display with a U-shaped notch for the selfie camera. The bezels are noticeable, particularly the thicker chin at the bottom, which affects the overall screen-to-body ratio. The frame houses the usual power and volume controls, while the bottom edge includes a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone also supports expandable storage through a dedicated microSD card slot, which is useful for users who store a lot of photos, videos and other files.

The Virat V1 Pro carries an IP64 rating for protection against dust and water splashes. Lava also includes a transparent soft TPU case in the box, adding grip and helping protect the rear panel. The design does not introduce anything particularly unconventional, but the shiny finish, headphone jack and expandable storage give the phone a practical everyday appeal.

Display

The Lava Virat V1 Pro features a 6.75-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The tall display produces sufficiently vivid colours for everyday viewing, including watching videos, browsing social media and reading content. Viewing angles are reasonable, with colours retaining their appearance when viewed from the sides. However, the 720p resolution limits sharpness, particularly when reading smaller text or viewing fine details.

The 120Hz refresh rate helps scrolling feel fluid when navigating menus and supported apps. Casual games also benefit from the higher refresh rate, although the experience is not consistently smooth across every interaction. The display specifications are largely unchanged from the standard Virat V1, so there is no major upgrade here. For everyday entertainment and browsing, the screen gets the job done, but users who prioritise sharper visuals may find the HD+ resolution limiting.

OS and AI

The Lava Virat V1 Pro runs Android 16 with a custom interface that keeps third-party apps out of the default setup. The clean software experience is one of its strengths, especially for users who prefer a straightforward interface without unnecessary pre-installed applications. However, some interface elements, including parts of the lock screen and settings menus, could benefit from a more modern design.

Lava has added an AI Smart Services section with tools such as AI Translate, AI Text Assistant, AI Pets and AI Agents. The phone also supports Google’s Circle to Search, which lets you search for information by circling content on the screen. Other useful additions include three-finger screenshots, call recording, a sidebar for quick app access and Anti-Peeping, which obscures selected screen content. Lava promises an upgrade to Android 17 and two years of security updates. The AI additions give the Pro model more functionality than the standard Virat V1, although the interface could use some refinement.

Performance

The Lava Virat V1 Pro runs on the Unisoc T8200 processor, built on a 6nm process and clocked at up to 2.3GHz. It also features a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. Our review unit came with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, giving users room for apps, photos, videos and other files. The phone also supports microSD expansion, making it easier to manage storage over time.

In benchmark tests, the Virat V1 Pro scored 516,743 on AnTuTu and 1,810 in Geekbench’s multi-core test. These numbers put it in the entry-level performance category, which is appropriate for a phone aimed at everyday users. The processor is also found in the standard Virat V1, so the Pro does not bring a major improvement in raw processing power. Its extra RAM and storage, however, give it a more practical configuration for users who keep several apps and files on their phones.

For everyday tasks such as browsing, watching videos and scrolling through social media, the phone handles the basics well. The clean interface helps keep the experience uncomplicated, although there can be some stutter when opening or closing apps. Gaming is best suited to lighter titles such as Clash Royale, where the 120Hz display helps interactions feel smooth. More demanding games are not the phone’s strongest suit, so users looking for sustained high-performance gaming should look at more powerful options.

The bloatware-free software remains a welcome part of the experience. Combined with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, it makes the Virat V1 Pro a practical option for users moving from an older smartphone or a basic 4G device. The key upgrade over the standard Virat V1 is therefore the memory and storage configuration, along with the additional AI features, rather than a significant jump in processor performance.

Camera

The Lava Virat V1 Pro features a 50-megapixel primary rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. Its camera app includes modes such as Night Mode, Portrait, Pro Mode, Panorama, Document Correction, Slow Motion and Time Lapse. These options give users some flexibility for everyday photography, document capture and creative shots.

In daylight, the primary camera captures good images for a phone in this price range. Photos retain usable detail, while colours give everyday scenes a pleasing appearance. Exposure can vary in challenging lighting, particularly when a bright sky or strong sunlight occupies much of the frame, but the camera does a reasonable job in more straightforward conditions. For casual photography, it provides results that are suitable for sharing on social media.

Night photography requires a steadier hand, but taking time to hold the phone firmly and frame the shot carefully helps produce more detailed images. Night Mode is useful in low-light situations, and the camera can capture good results when the scene and shooting conditions cooperate. Users should still expect some limitations in very dark environments, where detail and colour reproduction become more difficult to maintain.

Portraits add another dimension to the camera experience, with background blur helping separate the subject from the surroundings. The 8-megapixel selfie camera handles video calls and casual self-portraits, although skin tones can sometimes appear cooler than expected. Overall, the camera setup is suitable for everyday use, with daylight photography offering the most consistent experience and low-light shots benefiting from careful handling.

Battery

The Lava Virat V1 Pro packs a 6,000mAh battery, making endurance one of its strongest features. It easily lasts a day. This suggests the battery has enough capacity to support a full day of regular use, including browsing, video playback and social media.

Charging is less impressive. In our testing, the phone took a little over two hours to charge from 20 to 100 per cent. That is not particularly quick, so users may want to charge it before the battery gets too low. Still, the large battery and strong endurance make the Virat V1 Pro well suited to users who spend long hours away from a charger.

Verdict

The Lava Virat V1 Pro is a practical budget smartphone built around clean software, dependable everyday performance and strong battery life. Its 6,000mAh battery, 6GB RAM and 128GB storage make it suitable for users who need a phone for daily tasks, entertainment and light gaming. The AI tools and Circle to Search add useful functionality, while the 50-megapixel primary camera delivers good daylight results for its price range.

At ₹15,999, the Pro model’s main upgrades over the standard Virat V1 are its higher RAM and storage capacity and expanded AI features. The display and processor remain largely unchanged, so buyers should not expect a major performance leap. The HD+ screen, occasional interface stutter and slow charging are compromises worth considering. If you want more memory, useful AI tools and long battery life in a clean software package, the Lava Virat V1 Pro is worth considering. Those who already own the standard Virat V1 may find the upgrades less compelling, but for buyers choosing between the two, the Pro offers the more capable configuration.
