  • Users can redesign their profile layout without deleting content.

Instagram has officially launched its long-awaited grid reordering feature. The update allows users to rearrange posts on their profile grid without changing the original publishing date.

The feature is now rolling out globally, giving creators, businesses, and everyday users more flexibility in how their profiles appear. It marks one of the most requested Instagram updates in recent years.

What Is the New Instagram Grid Reordering Feature?

The new Instagram feature lets users manually rearrange posts on their profile grid. Until now, profile layouts followed a strict reverse chronological order, unless users pinned specific posts.

With the latest update, users can move older posts to different positions and redesign the appearance of their profile. This means content can be organized around themes, campaigns, aesthetics, or storytelling goals without deleting and reposting images.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri first announced that the feature was in development nearly a year ago. However, Instagram says it took additional time to refine the experience before releasing it worldwide.

How Can You Reorder Posts on Instagram?

Using the feature is relatively simple.

Users need to visit their profile page and long-press on a post. Alongside options such as “Pin to main grid” and “Archive,” they will now see a new option called “Reorder grid.”

Selecting that option opens an editing view where posts can be dragged and repositioned. Users can continue moving content until the profile layout matches their preferred design.

Pinned posts remain fixed at the top of the profile. During editing, those pinned posts appear unavailable for movement, ensuring they stay in their designated positions.

Why Has Instagram Introduced This Feature Now?

The ability to customize profile layouts has been one of the most requested Instagram features for years.

Many creators, photographers, brands, and influencers carefully plan how their profiles look. Previously, changing the visual flow often required deleting posts, archiving content, or publishing images in a specific sequence.

The new tool removes those limitations. Users can now update the look of their profile at any time while preserving engagement history and post timestamps.

Interestingly, signs of the feature appeared years ago. App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi reportedly discovered an “Edit Grid” option within Instagram’s code as early as 2022, suggesting Meta had been exploring the idea for quite some time.

What Does This Mean for Creators and Brands?

The update gives users greater creative control over how visitors experience their profiles.

Brands can highlight campaigns more effectively. Creators can curate portfolios without republishing content. Businesses can organize products and visual stories in a cleaner way.

Most importantly, profiles are no longer locked into a timeline-based layout.

Conclusion

The new Instagram grid reordering feature is now available globally and allows users to redesign their profile layouts without changing when posts were published. After years of requests, Instagram has finally delivered a tool that gives users more control over how their content is presented.
