The biggest update is that Anthropic has removed Voice Mode’s dependence on the lightweight Haiku model. Users can now choose between Opus, Sonnet and Haiku while speaking with Claude, depending on their subscription tier.

Previously, Voice Mode relied only on Haiku because it prioritized fast responses. While speed remains important, Opus and Sonnet introduce stronger reasoning capabilities that make conversations more useful for complex tasks.

According to Anthropic, Voice Mode automatically starts with the latest Claude model selected during text conversations. Users can also switch between supported models during an ongoing voice session without losing context.

Claude Fable, however, is not yet supported in Voice Mode.

Users can now have longer discussions, brainstorm ideas, review documents, prepare presentations and receive detailed communication feedback through voice conversations. Claude Voice Mode can now access Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Slack and web search while users continue speaking naturally.

This means users can ask Claude to summarize recent emails, check upcoming meetings, retrieve information from documents, search Slack conversations or find information online without leaving the voice interface.

The integrations also allow users to switch seamlessly between voice and text conversations while maintaining the same context.

Free users can connect one external service, while paid subscribers receive access to multiple connected tools. Anthropic also notes that combining several services may slightly increase response times during complex requests.

Where is Claude Voice Mode available?

Anthropic says Voice Mode remains in beta and is now available across Claude Mobile for Android and iOS, Claude Desktop, the web version and desktop applications.

The company recommends using the feature on smartphones, where voice interactions feel more natural. Voice conversations count toward usage limits across Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise subscriptions.

Users can choose between hands-free conversations and push-to-talk controls.

Hands-free mode listens continuously and responds after detecting natural pauses in speech. Push-to-talk mode gives users greater control over when Claude listens, making it more useful in busy environments or noisy workplaces.

Several built-in voice options are also available across desktop and mobile devices.

How is Anthropic addressing safety concerns?

As voice AI becomes more realistic, concerns around impersonation and misuse continue to grow.

To reduce those risks, Anthropic limits Voice Mode to preset voices instead of allowing users to create custom voice clones.

The company says Claude generates responses using synthetic voices rather than imitating real individuals. Voice Mode also follows the same safety policies that apply to Claude’s text conversations.

Every voice conversation is automatically converted into a text transcript and stored within chat history. This allows users to revisit previous discussions later without needing separate transcription software.

Unlike traditional speech-to-text tools, however, Claude Voice Mode focuses on natural conversations instead of simply converting spoken words into written text.

The feature remains unavailable in Claude Cowork and Claude Code.
