Uber customers in the United States can now book hotels directly inside the Uber app. The update marks a major shift in how Uber positions itself, moving beyond ride-hailing into full travel planning.

The company announced the feature during its annual Go-Get product event in New York City. It arrives alongside several AI-powered tools that signal a broader push to transform Uber into a multi-service travel platform.

The rollout also highlights how agentic AI is reshaping how quickly companies like Uber build and release software.

How does hotel booking work inside the app?

The new hotel booking feature gives Uber users access to more than 700,000 hotels worldwide through a partnership with Expedia Group. The integration brings global inventory directly into the Uber interface without requiring a separate travel platform.

Vacation rental listings from Vrbo are expected to join the app later this year. That addition will expand lodging choices beyond traditional hotels.

Uber One subscribers receive additional benefits when booking through the feature. Members get 20 percent discounts on a rotating list of 10,000 hotels. They also earn 10 percent back in Uber Credits on all reservations.

These incentives position the feature as both a travel utility and a subscription retention tool.

Why company says it is becoming an “app for everything”

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi used the event to describe a broader shift in the company’s direction.

“We’re no longer just an app for rides, or even two apps, or [a] family of apps for both rides and eats,” he said during the presentation.

“Uber is now an app for everything, where you can go, you can get, and now you can travel,” he added.

The messaging reflects a long-term strategy to turn Uber into a unified platform covering transportation, delivery, reservations, and trip planning.

How agentic AI helped launch features faster

Uber executives said agentic AI tools played a central role in accelerating development timelines for the new products.

Chief technology officer Praveen Neppalli Naga told TechCrunch that workflows powered by tools such as Cursor helped engineers move from idea to launch significantly faster.

“What we have seen the last few months is a fundamental reset, a new way of building software,” he said.

According to Naga, features like hotel booking would normally take at least a year to release. With agentic AI workflows, that timeline dropped by nearly half.

He also explained that faster development helps Uber address a long-standing challenge.

“Our problems generally at Uber, it’s not the problem of not having ideas; there’s so many things we want to build,” he said. “It’s just always the problem of, we don’t have enough time or resourcing to build these things.”

What is new travel mode and room service hub?

Alongside hotel booking, the company introduced a feature called travel mode. It provides localized travel information directly inside the app.

The tool highlights tourist hotspots, local favorites, and useful recommendations tied to a user’s destination. It aims to reduce reliance on multiple travel apps during trips.

It also extended travel functionality to Uber Eats. A new room service hub lists commonly forgotten travel essentials that users can order directly to their hotel.

The company plans to expand the hub later with curated restaurant suggestions and table reservations powered by OpenTable integration.

Uber also revealed a voice-enabled booking capability powered by artificial intelligence. The feature allows users to search and make reservations using natural spoken commands.

The company did not share a full rollout timeline. However, the addition signals a broader shift toward conversational interfaces inside mobility platforms.

Another update targets premium ride experiences. The company introduced “Eats for the Way,” a feature that allows users booking an Uber Black ride to order drinks or snacks in advance. The items will already be inside the vehicle when it arrives.

The update blends delivery services directly into transportation experiences. It also reflects Uber’s continuing effort to connect Eats and mobility workflows.
