Vivo has announced the launch date for OriginOS 7, its next major smartphone operating system. The software will be unveiled on September 16 at the company’s annual Vivo Developer Conference (VDC).

OriginOS 7 will be based on Android 17. Vivo is positioning the update as more than a visual refresh. The company also promises improvements to graphics rendering, app performance, memory management and power efficiency.

For users, the biggest change could be the new visual design. OriginOS 7 will introduce new materials, lighting effects and liquid-style animations across the interface.

Liquid-Style UI Comes to OriginOS 7

Vivo is giving OriginOS 7 a noticeably different visual identity. The company says the software will feature new materials and lighting effects alongside fluid, liquid-style animations.

The update will also introduce Liquid Themes for the lock screen. In addition, Vivo is adding a system-wide sticker library.

Another new feature is Atomic Workbench. The company says it is designed for traditional candybar-style smartphones and will offer new ways to interact with and manage tasks.

Vivo has not yet detailed every feature coming with OriginOS 7. More information should arrive at the September 16 event.

OriginOS 7 Promises Faster Performance

The visual changes are not the only focus. Vivo is also upgrading its Blue River Smooth Engine, which covers computing, storage and display performance.

According to Vivo, the new system can improve graphics rendering by 14%. Page-switching response speeds could also improve by up to 19%, while app startup times could become up to 12% faster.

The company also claims that its upgraded heterogeneous computing architecture can reduce power consumption by around 20% during scenarios involving UI animations and screen rendering.

These improvements could help OriginOS 7 feel smoother during everyday use. However, the actual experience will depend on the device and its hardware.

Storage Compression 2.0 Could Free Up More Space

Vivo is also changing how OriginOS handles memory and storage.

The company says it has reworked memory management, recycling strategies and data read-and-write channels. Vivo compares the change to moving from a single-lane system to multiple lanes for parallel data processing.

OriginOS 7 will also introduce Storage Compression 2.0. Vivo claims this feature can free up to 20GB of additional usable storage on a smartphone with 256GB of built-in storage.

The actual amount of storage recovered will likely depend on the device and the data stored on it.

Virtual Graphics Card 4.0 Supports New Effects

Vivo is also upgrading its display-related technology with Virtual Graphics Card 4.0.

The company says the system can combine multiple rendering steps more efficiently. As a result, advanced visual effects such as the new liquid-style interface can run without compromising visual quality or placing additional load on the CPU and GPU.

This approach could help Vivo deliver more elaborate animations while maintaining smoother performance and power efficiency.

BlueOS 4 Will Also Debut

OriginOS 7 will not be the only software platform Vivo introduces on September 16.

The company will also announce BlueOS 4, its next-generation platform for smart wearables, smart home products and other IoT devices.

This points to a broader software strategy from Vivo. Instead of focusing only on smartphones, the company is building a connected ecosystem across personal devices and smart home products.

OriginOS 7 Compatible Devices Yet to Be Confirmed

There is still one important question for Vivo users. The company has not yet announced the complete list of smartphones that will receive OriginOS 7.
