reMarkable has officially launched the Paper Pure, a new monochrome E Ink tablet designed for distraction-free writing and reading. The device replaces the six-year-old reMarkable 2 and arrives with upgraded hardware, better software tools, and deeper productivity integrations while keeping the paper-like experience that made the brand popular.
The launch also marks a notable shift. While many tablet makers push colorful displays and entertainment-focused features, reMarkable is doubling down on simplicity.
What Is the reMarkable Paper Pure?
The reMarkable Paper Pure is a 10.3-inch monochrome E Ink tablet aimed at note-taking, reading, sketching, and annotation. It succeeds the reMarkable 2, which helped popularize digital paper devices for professionals, students, and creators.
However, the new model is not just a refresh. reMarkable says the Paper Pure is 50% more responsive than the older tablet. The company also claims it delivers 30% better battery life.
Even though the screen size remains the same at 10.3 inches, the tablet is now wider. According to the company, this makes handwriting and document reading more comfortable.
The resolution remains unchanged at 1872 x 1404 pixels with 226 PPI density. That means users still get the familiar paper-like display without glare or traditional LCD distractions.
Why Did reMarkable Stay With a Monochrome Screen?
The decision stands out because the company recently explored color E Ink products with the Paper Pro and the smaller Paper Pro Move.
Still, the Paper Pure returns to a black-and-white experience. That move appears intentional.
Monochrome E Ink displays typically offer better readability, lower power consumption, and fewer distractions. For users focused on writing, studying, or reviewing documents, color often becomes secondary.
As a result, reMarkable seems to be targeting users who want a cleaner workspace instead of a multifunction entertainment tablet.
What Upgrades Does the reMarkable Paper Pure Bring?
The Paper Pure includes 32GB of storage, which is four times more than the reMarkable 2 offered. The device is also lighter, weighing 360 grams, roughly 40 grams less than its predecessor.
Battery performance also gets a boost thanks to a 3,820mAh battery. Combined with E Ink efficiency, the tablet is designed for long reading and writing sessions.
More importantly, the software experience has evolved significantly.
The Paper Pure now supports a web app, allowing users to access notes and documents across devices. Users can also sync calendars and attach notes directly to meetings.
Another new feature automatically converts imported cloud documents into optimized notebook layouts for easier reading and annotation on the tablet itself.
reMarkable has also improved handwriting search. That matters because digital note-taking increasingly depends on searchable organization instead of manual sorting.
Slack and Miro Integration Push the Tablet Beyond Writing
One of the biggest updates is the addition of collaboration-focused integrations.
The Paper Pure now works with Slack, allowing handwritten notes to be converted into typed text before sharing. The tablet also integrates with Miro, enabling users to share sketches and visual ideas directly into collaborative workspaces.
These additions suggest reMarkable wants the device to fit modern remote work and hybrid office environments without abandoning its minimal design philosophy.
Instead of turning the tablet into a full productivity computer, the company is positioning it as a focused companion device.
reMarkable 2 Is Being Retired
Alongside the launch, reMarkable confirmed it will stop producing the reMarkable 2.
However, existing users will continue receiving software updates and customer support. That decision matters because the reMarkable 2 remained one of the most recognized E Ink productivity tablets in the market for years.
The company also shared updated business numbers during the announcement.
According to reMarkable, it has sold more than 3.5 million devices so far. Its Connect subscription service now has 1.2 million subscribers. The subscription includes unlimited cloud storage, exclusive templates, and note-sharing tools.
reMarkable Paper Pure Price and Availability
The reMarkable Paper Pure starts at $399 and includes a stylus in the box.
A higher-end $449 bundle includes the Marker Plus stylus with an eraser feature and a sleeve folio available in multiple colors.
Orders open starting today, while shipping is expected to begin in early June.
The reMarkable Paper Pure arrives at a time when digital wellness, focused work, and distraction-free productivity tools are gaining attention again. Instead of competing directly with traditional tablets, reMarkable is continuing to build around a simpler idea: creating a device that feels closer to paper than a computer.
