Xiaomi’s Redmi brand has launched the Redmi 17 5G in India. The new budget-focused smartphone brings a large battery, a 120Hz display and Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset.
The biggest highlight is the 7,900mAh battery. Interestingly, the Indian version gets a larger battery than the global model. The phone also supports 45W wired fast charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging.
For buyers who want long battery life without moving to a more expensive smartphone, the Redmi 17 5G could be an interesting option.
Redmi 17 5G Price in India and Sale Date
The Redmi 17 5G carries a listed starting price of Rs. 39,999 for the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. The 8GB + 128GB version costs Rs. 41,999.
However, Xiaomi has announced much lower net effective prices for the two variants:
- 6GB + 128GB: Rs. 23,999 net effective price
- 8GB + 128GB: Rs. 26,999 net effective price
The Redmi 17 5G will go on sale from September 10 through Amazon and the Xiaomi online store.
It will be available in Absolute Black, Endless Blue and Eternal Orange colour options.
6.9-Inch Display With 120Hz Refresh Rate
The Redmi 17 5G features a 6.9-inch HD+ display with a 1,600×720-pixel resolution. The panel supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, which should offer smoother scrolling and animations.
In addition, the display can reach up to 825 nits of peak brightness. It also supports up to 240Hz touch sampling and 16.7 million colours.
The screen offers 83 percent NTSC colour coverage and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection.
Redmi has also included TÜV Rheinland certifications for Low Blue Light, Circadian Friendly and Flicker Free viewing.
Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Powers the Phone
The Redmi 17 5G runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset. The 4nm processor reaches a peak clock speed of 2.4GHz and comes with an Adreno GPU.
The phone offers up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Users can also expand the storage by up to 2TB using a microSD card.
Meanwhile, an IP64 rating provides protection against dust and water splashes.
50MP Rear Camera
For photography, the Redmi 17 5G features a dual rear camera setup led by a 50MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. Redmi has not specified the details of the secondary rear camera.
On the front, the phone gets an 8MP selfie camera with an f/2.05 aperture.
The rear and front cameras can record video at up to 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second.
7,900mAh Battery With 45W Charging
Battery life remains the key selling point of the Redmi 17 5G. The phone packs a 7,900mAh battery, which gives it a significant capacity advantage in its segment.
Furthermore, the battery supports 45W wired fast charging. The phone also supports 22.5W reverse wired charging, allowing users to use it as a power source for compatible accessories and devices.
For connectivity, the Redmi 17 5G supports 5G, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. It also includes a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The phone features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and face unlock for security.
Redmi 17 5G Runs HyperOS 3
The Redmi 17 5G ships with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3, based on Android 16.
The handset measures 170.12×78.42×8.8mm and weighs approximately 232 grams. Therefore, its large battery does add some weight, but it also targets users who prioritise endurance.
