The Red Magic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is now official in China, bringing flagship gaming hardware to the Android tablet segment. Nubia’s latest gaming-focused tablet packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM, a high-refresh-rate OLED display, and advanced cooling technology. The company has also confirmed that the same device will debut globally as the Red Magic Astra 2.
What is the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro offering?
The Red Magic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is designed for users who want console-like gaming performance in a portable form factor. It features a 9.06-inch 2.4K OLED display with a claimed refresh rate of up to 185Hz, although the panel natively supports up to 165Hz. The screen reaches up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness and uses upgraded X10 luminescent material alongside 5,280Hz PWM dimming for smoother visuals and improved eye comfort.
Nubia has also equipped the tablet with a Synaptics S3930T touch chip that delivers up to a 2,000Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate for faster gaming response.
Performance, storage, and cooling
Powering the tablet is Qualcomm’s 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor paired with an Adreno 840 GPU. Buyers can configure the device with up to 16GB LPDDR5T RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage.
To improve gaming performance, Nubia includes its in-house RedCore R4 gaming chip alongside Energy Cube 3.0 optimization technology. Thermal management is handled by a large 12,016 sq mm VC cooling system that combines Liquid Metal 3.0 with graphene and copper heat dissipation materials. The rear panel also features a transparent cooling design with RGB lighting.
Cameras, battery, and connectivity
The tablet carries a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera for video calls and selfies. It also integrates a fingerprint sensor into the power button and supports face unlock.
The Red Magic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro packs an 8,300mAh battery with 80W fast charging support. Interestingly, both USB Type-C ports support 80W charging, allowing users to charge the device while simultaneously connecting accessories or audio. Reverse charging support is also available.
Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, while dual stereo speakers complete the entertainment package.
Price and global availability
The tablet starts at CNY 5,299 (around Rs. 74,000) for the 12GB + 256GB model. The 16GB + 512GB variant costs CNY 5,999 (around Rs. 84,000), while the top-end 16GB + 1TB version is priced at CNY 6,999 (around Rs. 98,000).
Nubia has confirmed that the Red Magic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro will launch in international markets under the Red Magic Astra 2 branding. The company is yet to announce the global launch timeline.
