Indian consumer electronics brand Mivi is preparing to enter the smartphone market. The company has now confirmed that its first smartphone will be called the Mivi One 5G.
Mivi had started teasing its smartphone entry last month. Now, the company has revealed the phone’s name and confirmed that it will support 5G connectivity.
More importantly, Mivi has teased a Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G chipset for the upcoming smartphone. However, the company has not yet revealed the exact Snapdragon processor.
The phone is expected to target buyers looking for an affordable 5G smartphone. Recent leaks have suggested a sub-Rs. 15,000 price, although Mivi has not confirmed the pricing yet.
Mivi One 5G Launch Date and Availability
Mivi has not announced an exact launch date for the One 5G. However, the smartphone already has a dedicated landing page on Flipkart, where it is described as “dropping soon.”
This confirms that Flipkart will be among the sales channels for the company’s first smartphone.
The teaser also gives us an early look at the phone. It shows a green colour option, rounded corners and a design that appears fairly simple. Mivi is promoting the smartphone with the “Pretty Powerful” tagline.
The company is expected to reveal more details about the device, including its processor, cameras, display, battery and price, closer to the launch.
Mivi Enters the Smartphone Market
Mivi is best known for its audio products. Its portfolio currently includes earphones, Bluetooth speakers, soundbars and home theatre systems, among other consumer electronics products.
With the Mivi One 5G, the Hyderabad-based company will enter a smartphone market dominated by established brands. The move also follows a broader trend of Indian consumer electronics companies expanding into smartphones.
For instance, wearable brand Fire-Boltt recently entered the smartphone segment with the Boltt Ace and Boltt Evo. These phones started at Rs. 13,999 and Rs. 10,999, respectively.
Meanwhile, Philips has also entered the segment with the S7221 5G. The phone launched in India with a starting price of Rs. 20,499.
What to Expect From Mivi One 5G
At this stage, Mivi has confirmed only a few details about its upcoming smartphone. The 5G connectivity and Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset are confirmed, while the remaining specifications are still under wraps.
If the recent sub-Rs. 15,000 pricing reports prove accurate, Mivi One 5G could compete directly with several affordable 5G smartphones from established brands.
