Google has teamed up with The Pokémon Company to launch a special-edition Fitbit Air that brings Pokémon Sleep to the wearable. The device combines Fitbit’s health and fitness tracking with the sleep-focused Pokémon game, giving Pokémon fans another way to interact with the franchise while tracking their daily activity and sleep.
The launch comes as Pokémon celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
Fitbit Air Works With Pokémon Sleep
Pokémon Sleep turns sleep tracking into a game, with players earning in-game rewards based on their sleeping habits. Sleep duration and quality contribute to the progress of a sleepy Snorlax, with better sleep helping build its “Drowsy Power” and attract more Pokémon.
The special-edition Fitbit Air adds wearable-based tracking to this experience. It can sync with both the Google Health app and Pokémon Sleep, allowing users to track metrics such as daily movement, heart rate and cardio load during the day.
At night, the wearable can record sleep duration and quality, giving users health and sleep information while also feeding into their Pokémon Sleep experience.
Fitbit Air Gets a Pokémon Makeover
The Pokémon edition is essentially a special version of Google’s recently launched Fitbit Air, which was introduced in May.
The standard Fitbit Air features a slimmer, screenless design, health and fitness tracking and an AI-powered coach that provides personalised guidance based on activity, sleep and wellness data.
The Pokémon Sleep edition adds a themed experience around the existing wearable, giving fans a more playful reason to use its sleep-tracking capabilities.
Pokémon Sleep already works with a number of supported wearables, including Apple Watch, Fitbit devices, Galaxy Watch and Google Pixel Watch. Users can also use the app without a wearable.
Price and Availability
The special-edition Fitbit Air is priced at $129 and is currently available to preorder. Shipping is scheduled to begin on September 15. It will be sold online and in stores through the Google Store and Target.
For comparison, the standard Fitbit Air is priced at $99, making the Pokémon edition $30 more expensive. The collaboration gives Google a way to make its wearable technology more appealing to Pokémon fans while extending the role of Fitbit Air beyond conventional fitness and sleep tracking.
