Engine and gearbox options

The Hyundai Bayon uses a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. It produces 115PS and 143.8Nm of torque.

Buyers can choose a six-speed manual gearbox or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT) automatic. The automatic version gets Dash Boost Mode, which aims to improve responsiveness during overtaking.

The SUV also offers Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes. Paddle shifters and Idle Stop & Go add to its driving features.

These specifications position the Bayon as a conventional petrol SUV rather than a performance-focused model. Buyers should consider a test drive to assess its acceleration, ride comfort and gearbox behaviour in everyday traffic.

AI voice assistant and connected features

One of the Bayon’s main technology highlights is Hyundai Motor India’s first built-in generative AI voice assistant. The system uses technology from Perplexity and SoundHound AI.

Hyundai says the assistant can respond to conversational requests and provide information about travel, weather, hotels, restaurants, news and sports. Its usefulness will depend on how reliably it understands requests and responds in real-world driving conditions.

The cabin features curved 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Other features include wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a Bose premium sound system.

Hyundai Bluelink provides more than 70 connected features, alongside over-the-air updates for supported vehicle controllers. The company is also offering three years of complimentary Bluelink subscription.

Comfort equipment includes ventilated front seats, an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a panoramic sunroof and wireless phone charging.

The SUV also offers 505 litres of boot space, giving families room for luggage and everyday essentials.

Level 2 ADAS and safety features

Hyundai has equipped the Bayon with SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS, offering 23 driver assistance features. These include Highway Driving Assist and navigation-based smart cruise control.

The available equipment also includes a surround-view monitor and blind-spot view monitor. All-wheel disc brakes add to the braking hardware.

Standard safety features across the range include six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist and a high-line tyre pressure monitoring system.

Hyundai says the Bayon is built on its Global K Enhanced Platform and engineered to meet five-star Indian safety standards. This statement should not be confused with an independently awarded crash-test rating unless a formal assessment is published.

The SUV measures 4,245mm long, 1,810mm wide and 1,605mm tall. It has a 2,600mm wheelbase and 205mm ground clearance.

Should you consider the Hyundai Bayon?

The Bayon brings together several features that matter to modern SUV buyers. Its AI voice assistant, dual displays, connected-car functions and Level 2 ADAS make it a technology-focused option.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine and choice of manual and automatic transmissions also give buyers flexibility. The 505-litre boot and comfort features could suit families who want a practical daily driver.

However, buyers should assess the higher variants carefully. Prices reach Rs. 17.99 lakh, so the decision should depend on which features they need and how the SUV drives. ADAS availability and functionality can also vary by variant.

A test drive, a review of the variant-wise equipment list and a check of the final on-road price will help buyers decide whether the Bayon suits their needs.
