Hero MotoCorp has unveiled the new Xpulse 450 at EICMA 2026, marking its entry into the middleweight adventure motorcycle segment. The motorcycle gets an all-new 421cc engine and development inputs from Hero MotoSports’ international rally programme.

The Xpulse 450 represents a significant step up from the existing Xpulse 210. It is expected to compete with the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure.

Hero Xpulse 450: Engine and performance

The new Hero Xpulse 450 is powered by a 421cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It produces 45.5bhp at 9,100rpm and 38Nm of torque at 7,500rpm.

The engine is paired with a six-speed transmission and an assist-and-slipper clutch. These figures position the Xpulse 450 in a more performance-focused category than Hero’s smaller-capacity adventure motorcycles.

Hero has not yet shared further technical details, including the motorcycle’s weight, fuel tank capacity, or expected range.

Rally experience shapes the Xpulse 450

Hero says the Xpulse 450 benefits from knowledge gained through its Hero MotoSports Team Rally programme. The company’s participation in international rally events, including the Dakar Rally, has provided experience in motorcycle durability, suspension behaviour, weight distribution and rider ergonomics.

The Xpulse 450 is intended to bring some of those learnings to a road-going adventure motorcycle. However, Hero has not specified which components or engineering solutions have directly transferred from its rally bikes.

The motorcycle features a fully adjustable KYB 43mm upside-down front suspension. It offers 225mm of travel, a specification that supports its adventure-focused positioning.

Smartphone integration and equipment

One of the highlighted features is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. Hero describes this as a category-first feature for the Xpulse 450.

The company has not yet disclosed the full equipment list or explained how the smartphone integration will work in detail. More information about the motorcycle’s electronics and rider aids is also awaited.

Hero Xpulse 450 faces a competitive segment

The Xpulse 450 enters a busy middleweight adventure motorcycle market. The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 has established itself as an adventure tourer, while the KTM 390 Adventure offers a performance-oriented package with extensive electronic equipment.

The Norton Atlas is also expected to enter the Indian market, adding another contender to the segment.

Hero will need to balance performance, off-road capability, everyday practicality and pricing to make the Xpulse 450 stand out. The company has not announced its price, India launch timeline or market-specific specifications.

The unveiling gives Hero a stronger presence in the adventure motorcycle category. However, its eventual position against established rivals will depend on the details and pricing revealed closer to launch.
