OpenAI Launches ChatGPT for Financial Services With GPT-6 Astra

News in Short

  • OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Financial Services for eligible financial institutions.
  • The specialised ChatGPT Work experience is designed for research, financial modelling and client materials.
  • It is powered by GPT-6 Astra.
  • The platform includes built-in financial data from providers including Daloopa, PitchBook and LSEG News.

OpenAI is taking ChatGPT deeper into the financial industry with a specialised version designed for banks, investment firms and other financial institutions.

Called ChatGPT for Financial Services, the new Work experience combines financial datasets with GPT-6 Astra’s reasoning capabilities. OpenAI says it is built around three major requirements for financial professionals: finding information, analysing it and turning that work into usable documents.

The service is currently available to eligible financial institutions.

Built for financial research and modelling

ChatGPT for Financial Services is aimed at workflows such as financial research, modelling and preparing client-facing materials.

The platform can work with figures, tables and supporting notes in financial documents. It can then use that information for analysis and turn the output into documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

OpenAI says the initial focus has been shaped by partnerships with financial firms including Morgan Stanley and Evercore, particularly around investment banking and equity research workflows.

Built-in access to financial data

One of the biggest differences from a general-purpose ChatGPT experience is access to premium financial datasets.

The platform includes data from providers such as Daloopa, PitchBook and LSEG News. These sources cover areas including earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals and private-company information.

OpenAI says the data is indexed and hosted on its infrastructure. This is designed to improve retrieval and allow users to trace figures and claims back to their supporting sources.

The platform also supports data from other providers and has more than 50 connectors for financial and business applications, according to the supplied information.

GPT-6 Astra handles the analysis

At the centre of the service is GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI’s flagship model for work.

The model is designed to handle the three parts of the financial workflow: information retrieval, financial reasoning and artifact generation. It can analyse figures and tables, draw conclusions and turn the results into spreadsheets, documents and presentations.

This could allow financial teams to move from research to a finished deliverable within the same workflow rather than switching between several tools.

Firms can use their own templates

OpenAI is also giving companies more control over how generated work looks.

Administrators can publish Excel, Word and PowerPoint templates through a dedicated admin page. Firms can use these templates and their own style guides to standardise outputs such as valuation models, research notes and pitchbooks.

The platform also supports multiple workspaces, allowing organisations to create information barriers. Administrators can control supported app read and write actions based on user roles.

Enterprise security is a major focus

Financial institutions deal with sensitive company and client information, making security and governance particularly important.

ChatGPT for Financial Services builds on enterprise controls including SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning and role-based access controls. OpenAI says business data is not used to train its models by default and is encrypted both at rest and in transit.

OpenAI also says administrators can configure workspace retention and compliance teams can export supported workspace logs for audit and investigation workflows.

What this means for financial firms

The launch moves ChatGPT beyond general workplace productivity into a more specialised financial workflow.

Instead of simply asking an AI model to analyse information supplied by a user, financial teams can access integrated datasets, perform analysis and create client-ready materials within the same environment.

However, OpenAI’s own financial services terms make clear that the service is intended for information and analysis, not financial or investment advice. The company also warns that data and outputs can be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed or out of date, so important information should be independently reviewed.

For now, ChatGPT for Financial Services is available to eligible financial institutions, with OpenAI inviting interested organisations to contact its sales team or account teams.
