Instagram Lets You Add Tagged Posts to Your Profile Grid: Know How It Works

News in Short

  • Instagram is rolling out a new option to add posts you’re tagged in to your main profile grid.
  • The original post remains on the other person’s profile.
  • Adding a tagged post to your grid does not duplicate or delete the original post.
  • Users can remove the post from their profile grid whenever they want.
  • The option is available from the DM notification, original post or Tagged tab.

Instagram is making it easier for users to control what appears on their profile. The platform has started rolling out a feature that lets users add posts they have been tagged in directly to their main profile grid.

Until now, posts from other people that tagged you stayed in the dedicated Tagged section of your profile. If you wanted the same photo or video to appear on your main grid, you generally had to publish it yourself.

The new option removes that extra step.

For example, imagine your friends post a group photo from a holiday and tag you. Instead of uploading the same photo to your own account, you can now add that tagged post to your profile grid.

How to add a tagged post to your Instagram grid

Instagram provides multiple ways to add a tagged post.

You can use the option from the DM notification you receive when someone tags you. You can also access the option directly from the tagged post or through the Tagged tab on your profile.

Once added, the post appears on your main profile grid.

Importantly, Instagram does not create a second copy of the post. The original post stays on the account that published it.

You can also remove the post from your main grid later. Removing it from your grid does not remove the tag itself or delete the original post.

Useful for creators and brand collaborations

The feature could be particularly useful for Instagram creators.

Creators often appear in collaborative shoots, campaigns and events where another account publishes the final content. With the new option, they can highlight that content on their own profiles without having to republish it.

It could also help with brand campaigns involving multiple creators. A campaign post can appear on the profiles of tagged creators while remaining hosted on the original account.

This gives creators another way to curate their profile without adding duplicate content.

Instagram is giving users more control over their profiles

The tagged-post option comes as Instagram continues to add tools for profile customisation.

In June, Instagram introduced the ability to reorder posts on the main profile grid. This lets users change the arrangement of their existing content instead of being locked into the chronological order in which posts were originally published.

The platform has also been working on tools that make content creation easier. Its First Draft feature can automatically trim selected video clips and remove pauses to create an initial edit.

Instagram recently added Replace Audio as well, allowing users to change the music attached to an existing post.

Together, these updates show Instagram moving beyond simply letting users publish content. The platform is giving users more control over how their profiles look and how existing content is presented.

For everyday users, the new tagged-post feature is a small change. But for people who care about maintaining a curated Instagram profile, it could make managing the grid considerably easier.
