News in Short

  • Google has introduced immersive explorations in Gemini to help users learn through interactive visual experiences.
  • The feature covers subjects such as history, engineering, physics and space.
  • Users can explore topics layer by layer by tapping labels within interactive scenes.
  • The feature supports English, Hindi, Indonesian, Brazilian Portuguese, French and Simplified Chinese.
  • Google plans to add audio narration and make the experiences accessible directly in Gemini chats.

Google is expanding Gemini beyond traditional text-based answers with a new feature designed to make learning more interactive. Called immersive explorations, the feature lets users explore complex topics through visual scenes and interactive labels.

The experience targets students who want to understand subjects such as science, history, engineering and space. Instead of relying only on written explanations, users can explore different parts of a topic and reveal additional details as they interact with the scene.

For example, a student studying physics can explore how lightning works. Someone interested in engineering can examine the internal components of a jet engine. History learners can also trace trade routes along the Silk Road.

The feature is part of Google’s broader effort to make AI tools more useful for learning. However, its practical value will depend on how clearly the visual experiences explain each subject and how accurately they present information.

How Gemini’s immersive explorations work

Google announced the feature through a blog post on Wednesday. Users can access its library through the Gemini student hub by selecting “Try immersive explorations”.

The interactive scenes cover topics ranging from microscopic systems to deep space. Users can tap labels within a scene to reveal different levels of detail. This approach allows them to explore specific concepts instead of reading a single, lengthy explanation.

The feature could be useful when a topic involves processes, structures or relationships that are difficult to understand through text alone. For instance, examining a jet engine’s internal components may help learners connect individual parts with the larger system.

Similarly, interactive explanations of lightning could help students explore a physical phenomenon through a visual format. Historical scenes, meanwhile, could offer a more engaging way to examine how trade routes connected different regions.

Google says these experiences will also become accessible directly within Gemini chat conversations soon. The company has not provided a specific date for this wider integration in the announcement.

Gemini adds support for Hindi and other languages

Immersive explorations is available in English, Indonesian, Hindi, Brazilian Portuguese, French and Simplified Chinese.

Users who access Gemini in other languages currently receive an English-language experience. Google expects to introduce support for additional languages later, but it has not announced a timeline.

Hindi support is particularly relevant for learners who prefer exploring educational content in an Indian language. However, the current language limitations mean that users should check which experience appears in their Gemini account.

Google has also confirmed that audio narration will arrive in a future update. This could give users another way to follow an explanation while exploring an interactive scene. The company has not yet detailed how the narration will work or when it will launch.

What this means for students

The feature gives students another way to approach difficult concepts. Interactive visuals can help break a complex subject into smaller parts, making it easier to explore individual components and their relationships.

It could also support revision by giving learners another format for revisiting concepts they have already studied. Teachers and parents may find it useful as a supplementary learning resource, depending on the topics available.

However, immersive explorations should complement established learning materials rather than replace them. Students should continue checking important facts against textbooks, classroom instruction and reliable reference sources. AI-generated explanations can still contain errors or omit important context.

Google has not established that this feature improves academic performance. Its immediate value lies in offering an interactive way to explore educational subjects.

For students, the next step is to open the Gemini student hub and look for “Try immersive explorations”. As Google adds direct chat access and audio narration, the experience could become easier to use alongside regular study routines.
