- AI can remember previous trip planning conversations.
- Gmail integration enables personalised travel recommendations.
- Food ordering and hotel booking remain US-only features.
Google has rolled out a major update for Ask Maps in India, making its Gemini-powered AI assistant more useful for everyday travel. The latest update adds Hindi language support, real-time public transit information, conversation memory and personalised recommendations powered by Gmail integration.
While Google recently introduced AI-powered food ordering and hotel booking in the US, Indian users are getting features focused on navigation, trip planning and local commuting.
Ask Maps now understands Hindi
The biggest India-specific addition is Hindi support. Users can now ask questions, search for destinations and receive recommendations in Hindi using natural language. Google says the feature works alongside English, making Ask Maps more accessible to a wider range of users across the country.
Real-time transit updates arrive
Google has also added live public transport information to Ask Maps in India.
Users can now check real-time schedules, delays, route changes and connecting options for buses, metro services and trains directly through the conversational interface. Instead of switching between multiple searches, commuters can simply ask Ask Maps for the latest travel updates.
AI offers personalised travel suggestions
Another major addition is Personal Intelligence.
With permission, Ask Maps can connect to Gmail to access information such as hotel bookings, flight details and restaurant reservations. It then uses this information to offer contextual recommendations, such as nearby attractions before a flight or restaurants close to a booked hotel.
Google says the feature is disabled by default, giving users full control over their privacy.
Remembers previous conversations
Google is also introducing conversation memory to Ask Maps.
If chat history is enabled, users can continue previous trip-planning sessions without starting over. For example, they can ask the AI to recall destinations or activities it recommended earlier instead of repeating the original prompt.
Some AI features are still unavailable in India
Although Ask Maps continues to evolve, some of its newest AI capabilities remain exclusive to the US. These include agentic features that allow users to order food, discover hotels and find event tickets directly through Google Maps.
Google says the new Hindi support, conversation memory, Personal Intelligence and live transit updates are rolling out now for Ask Maps users in India.
