Vivo has expanded its smartphone lineup in China with the launch of the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z. The two smartphones share the same design, hardware, and software, differing only in branding. They are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset. The focus is on long battery life, durability, and everyday 5G performance.

What are the key features of the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z?

The biggest highlight of the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z is their 7,200mAh battery. This is one of the largest capacities currently available in a mainstream smartphone. Vivo pairs the battery with 44W wired fast charging and support for 33W and 22.5W charging standards. The phones also support OTG reverse charging, allowing users to power compatible accessories.

The smartphones feature a 6.75-inch LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The display offers HD+ resolution, a 19.6:9 aspect ratio, and an 83 percent NTSC color gamut. This ensures smoother scrolling and improved touch responsiveness.

How powerful are the new Vivo phones?

Both the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, built on a 4nm process. The processor is paired with an Adreno 613 GPU, up to 8GB LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

The phones run OriginOS 6 based on Android 16 and include Vivo’s Blue Heart Little V AI assistant, which supports voice interactions, smart suggestions, and document scanning features.

What camera and durability features do they offer?

For photography, Vivo equips both models with a single 50-megapixel rear camera featuring autofocus, an f/1.8 aperture, and support for up to 10x digital zoom. An 8-megapixel front camera handles selfies and video calls. Both cameras support video recording at up to 1080p resolution.

The smartphones also focus heavily on durability. They carry IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, along with a five-star drop and shock resistance certification. A side-mounted fingerprint scanner and Face Wake facial recognition provide security, while stereo speakers and an infrared remote add extra convenience.

Connectivity options include 5G, dual nano-SIM support, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS, Wi-Fi Display, USB Type-C, OTG, and MU-MIMO support.

Price and availability

The Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z are available in identical memory configurations. The 6GB + 128GB variant is priced at CNY 2,199 (around Rs. 30,900), while the 8GB + 256GB version costs CNY 2,899 (roughly Rs. 40,700). Both smartphones are currently available in Obsidian Black through Vivo’s official online store in China.

With a massive battery, rugged build, Android 16, and reliable mid-range hardware, the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z target users who prioritize endurance and durability over premium flagship features. While Vivo has not announced global availability yet, the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z add another battery-focused option to the growing 5G smartphone market.
