OPPO has unveiled ColorOS 17, the latest version of its smartphone operating system. The update combines a redesigned interface with AI tools that can organise personal information, edit photos and assist with everyday tasks.

The company is also promising improvements to rendering efficiency, multitasking and long-term performance. ColorOS 17 will debut on the upcoming OPPO Find X10 Series, with a wider rollout planned for other eligible devices.

ColorOS 17 introduces a new Living Flow Design

ColorOS 17 introduces Living Flow Design, a visual system built around three elements: Luminous Effect, Fluid Motion and Flexible Feedback.

Luminous Effect adds softer, more translucent visuals and lighting effects that respond to touch. Fluid Motion aims to make transitions between interface elements feel more continuous. Flexible Feedback changes how buttons and toolbars respond to taps, using visual compression and rebound effects.

OPPO says these changes extend across app transitions, Fluid Cloud and other everyday interactions. The goal is to make the interface feel more cohesive rather than treating individual animations as separate effects.

Under the design changes, ColorOS 17 introduces a Unified Rendering Architecture powered by an updated Luminous Rendering Engine. OPPO says this system combines previously separate rendering processes into one pipeline.

According to the company, the approach can reduce rendering loads by up to 30% and rendering-related RAM usage by up to 25% in key scenarios compared with the previous generation.

OPPO claims faster app launches and better multitasking

ColorOS 17 also upgrades the Laminar Flow Engine, which manages system resources across foreground and background tasks.

OPPO claims app launch stability improves by 55%, while Gallery thumbnails load up to 50% faster on first launch compared with ColorOS 16. The company also says the system can keep more than 25% additional apps running in the background during multitasking.

These changes target common smartphone frustrations, including delayed app launches, repeated loading and interruptions when switching between applications.

OPPO further claims that ColorOS 17 retains more than 90% of its initial smoothness in tests simulating six years of use, even when storage reaches 90% capacity.

These figures come from OPPO’s own testing. Actual results may vary by device, storage conditions, installed applications and usage patterns.

AI Mind Pilot brings agentic AI to ColorOS 17

One of the major additions is AI Mind Pilot, which introduces an Agent Mode designed to complete multi-step tasks using information stored on the device.

The feature can search across photos and files, organise scattered documents and rename files based on their content and dates. It can also use stored information to create outputs such as travel itineraries and webpages.

For photos, AI Mind Pilot can find images from a particular trip, organise them into albums and prepare selected images for creative uses, such as vlog covers.

The broader aim is to reduce the manual work involved in organising information across a phone. However, the available functions and results will depend on the user’s request and the information accessible to the AI.

AI Photo Agent and AI Mind Space get upgrades

ColorOS 17 introduces AI Photo Agent, which supports natural-language photo editing and reference-based styling.

With Style Match, users can provide a reference image. The AI analyses its colour palette, tone and overall mood before applying a similar look to another photo. Users can also describe the changes they want or receive suggested edits based on the image.

AI Mind Space, OPPO’s personal information hub, gains support for saving documents and video links. The system can recognise their content and turn it into searchable personal memories.

Memory Collections can automatically group related information and create summaries. For travel planning, AI Mind Space can combine saved information with destination maps to suggest personalised itineraries.

Another addition, AI Mind Suggest, provides contextual information such as morning briefs, travel reminders and flight or train cards. It can also recommend music when headphones connect.

OSee brings several visual AI tools into one experience. A single camera-shutter press can connect users to functions such as object recognition, knowledge lookup, nutrition analysis, high-definition scanning and translation.

ColorOS 17 adds privacy reporting and AI Call Guard

OPPO says privacy remains central to its AI features. Its Private Computing Cloud uses end-to-end encryption for cloud-based AI processing within a secure environment designed to prevent third-party access, including access by OPPO.

ColorOS 17 also adds post-quantum security capabilities to Private Computing Cloud. A dual-encryption mechanism is designed to strengthen data transmission between devices and the cloud against emerging quantum-computing threats.

A new Transparency Report gives users information about AI services used on their devices, when they were accessed and which operations were performed. Users can view and export the report.

The update also introduces AI Call Guard, which uses on-device AI detection to monitor calls for potential fraud indicators. OPPO says it can flag risks such as synthetic voices and AI-generated face swaps.

The feature is designed to alert users to suspicious activity. It should be treated as an additional layer of protection rather than a guarantee that every fraudulent call will be detected.

ColorOS 17 rollout: Which OPPO phones will get it?

OPPO will launch ColorOS 17 with the upcoming Find X10 Series. The company plans to extend the update to more OPPO devices progressively.

OPPO has directed users to its official ColorOS 17 website for detailed rollout information. A complete device-by-device schedule should be checked there before assuming that a particular phone will receive the update.

For users, the update combines a redesigned interface with AI tools, system-performance changes and additional privacy features. Its practical impact will depend on device compatibility and how well these features work in everyday use.
