What do the new Garmin smartwatches offer?
All three smartwatches feature a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with a 390×390-pixel resolution and an optional always-on mode. Garmin has also equipped the wearables with a 5ATM water-resistance rating, making them suitable for swimming and outdoor workouts.
The Garmin Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170 models come with silicone straps and support interchangeable 20mm bands, allowing users to customize their look.
What health and fitness features are available?
Garmin continues to focus heavily on fitness and recovery.
The Garmin Forerunner series includes wrist-based heart rate monitoring powered by Garmin Elevate technology, Pulse Ox blood oxygen tracking, sleep monitoring, stress tracking, Body Battery energy monitoring, Morning Report, and Health Status insights.
Users also gain access to Garmin’s Training Readiness and Training Status features, helping runners understand recovery levels and optimize workouts.
The watches support multiple activity profiles, including running, cycling, swimming, strength training, yoga, and more. Garmin Coach is also available, offering guided training plans for running, cycling, and strength workouts.
Navigation and sensors
The three smartwatches support GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellite systems for accurate outdoor tracking.
Alongside heart rate monitoring, the watches include an accelerometer and an ambient light sensor.
The Forerunner 170 and Forerunner 170 Music go a step further by adding a barometric altimeter and thermometer, giving athletes more detailed environmental and elevation data during outdoor activities.
How long does the battery last?
Battery life remains one of Garmin’s biggest strengths.
The Garmin Forerunner 70 is rated to deliver up to 13 days in smartwatch mode, up to 28 days in battery saver mode, and up to 23 hours while using GPS continuously. It comes with 512MB of onboard storage.
The Forerunner 170 and Forerunner 170 Music offer up to 10 days of battery life in smartwatch mode, up to 19 days in battery saver mode, and up to 20 hours in GPS mode. Both models include 4GB of internal storage.
What makes the Forerunner 170 Music different?
The standout feature of the Garmin Forerunner 170 Music is offline music support.
Users can download playlists from supported music streaming services directly to the smartwatch and store songs locally. This allows runners to enjoy music without carrying a smartphone during workouts. The watch also supports music controls for a connected phone.
Why does the Garmin Forerunner launch matter?
The new Garmin Forerunner lineup strengthens Garmin’s position in India’s premium fitness wearable market. Instead of focusing on general smartwatch features, the company continues to prioritize advanced training metrics, recovery tracking, accurate GPS performance, and long battery life.
With AMOLED displays, detailed health monitoring, offline music, and multi-day battery life, the latest Forerunner series caters to runners, endurance athletes, and fitness enthusiasts looking for dedicated training tools rather than a traditional smartwatch experience.
