The machine arrives with top-end specifications, including Nvidia’s RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, Intel’s latest Core Ultra processor, and a 4K 240Hz mini-LED display.

The latest ROG Strix Scar 18 targets users looking for desktop-level gaming power in a portable form factor. Asus is also leaning heavily into AI-focused features, advanced thermal upgrades, and high-refresh-rate gaming experiences with this release.

What makes the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 display stand out?

The Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 features an 18-inch 4K ROG Nebula HDR mini-LED display with a 3,840×2,400 resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. Asus says the panel includes more than 2,000 dimming zones and can reach peak HDR brightness levels of up to 1,600 nits.

The display also supports Dolby Vision, Nvidia G-SYNC, Pantone Validation, and 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. This combination aims to improve both gaming visuals and creator-focused workflows.

In addition, Asus has included AGLR technology to reduce reflections. The panel carries a VESA ClearMR 11000 rating as well. Asus further added ROG Nebula ELMB technology with eight-zone strobing support to improve motion clarity during fast-paced gameplay.

The focus on high refresh rates and mini-LED technology reflects a broader shift happening across premium gaming laptops in 2026.

Which processor and GPU power the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18?

The Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 is powered by up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor. On the graphics side, buyers can configure the laptop with up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU.

The RTX 5090 Laptop GPU supports Nvidia DLSS 4 and Multi-Frame Generation technologies. These features are designed to improve frame rates and visual smoothness in supported games.

Asus claims the laptop can sustain up to 320W of total system power. Meanwhile, the GPU itself can operate at up to 175W TGP. This positions the machine among the highest-powered gaming laptops currently showcased at Computex 2026.

The Intel Core Ultra platform also adds dedicated AI processing capabilities. Asus is integrating those features with AI-driven workflows and communication tools. The laptop includes Two-Way AI Noise Cancellation support for streaming, calls, and multiplayer communication.

How much RAM and storage does the laptop support?

Asus is pushing high-end memory and storage configurations with the ROG Strix Scar 18. The laptop supports up to 128GB DDR5 RAM running at 6400MHz through dual SO-DIMM slots.

For storage, the laptop supports up to 8TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD storage. Asus is offering the configuration as two 4TB drives running in RAID 0.

The company has also simplified upgrade access. Users can open the machine and access RAM or SSD slots without using a screwdriver. Asus has included the ROG Q-Latch mechanism for SSD retention, reducing the complexity of hardware upgrades.

What cooling upgrades did Asus introduce?

Thermal management is another major focus area on the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18. Asus says the gaming laptop now includes an upgraded cooling system featuring an end-to-end vapor chamber and a sandwiched heatsink design.

The heatsink itself uses ultrathin 0.1mm copper fins. Asus claims the vapor chamber is 20 percent larger compared to the previous generation.

The company also redesigned the cooling fans. According to Asus, the new fans deliver 91 percent more airflow than the earlier model.

Gaming laptops continue to face thermal challenges as GPU and CPU power demands increase. Asus appears to be addressing this directly with a larger cooling assembly and airflow improvements.
