Amazon has expanded its hardware lineup with a new range of Alexa Tablets. The company has introduced three models designed around Alexa+, entertainment and productivity.

The lineup includes the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11 and Alexa Tablet 8. Prices start at $229.99, while the flagship 12 Pro starts at $499.99.

Unlike traditional Fire tablets, Amazon is positioning the new range around Alexa+ as a core part of the tablet experience. The tablets also offer full Google Play Store access.

Three Alexa Tablets target different users

The new lineup spans three screen sizes. The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is the flagship model, while the Tablet 11 focuses on entertainment and the Tablet 8 prioritises portability.

All three feature aluminium construction and run Android. They also come with Amazon’s ecosystem of apps, including Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music and Amazon Luna.

At the same time, users can access apps such as YouTube, Netflix, Gmail and Google Docs through the Google Play Store.

Alexa Tablet 12 Pro gets a 120Hz display

The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is the most advanced model in the lineup. It features a 12-inch display with 280ppi resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The screen uses a 3:2 aspect ratio, giving users more vertical space for reading and productivity. Amazon will offer a standard display as well as a Nanomatte option with anti-glare technology.

The tablet measures just 6.5mm in thickness and uses a single-piece aluminium construction.

Under the hood, it uses a 4nm eight-core processor with up to 16GB of RAM. Amazon claims nearly three times faster processing and nine times faster graphics compared with any tablet it has previously shipped.

The tablet also features quad Dolby Atmos speakers, Wi-Fi 6E and up to 16 hours of video playback.

Nanomatte display targets productivity

The Nanomatte version is one of the more interesting additions to the 12 Pro. Amazon says its anti-glare surface uses a precision-etched texture at the sub-pixel level.

The company claims this approach reduces glare while retaining detail and colour accuracy. It is designed to remain readable across different lighting conditions.

Amazon is also launching a Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard for the tablet. The pen uses USI 2.0 technology and supports 4,096 pressure levels, tilt detection, magnetic docking and wireless charging.

Meanwhile, the keyboard attaches magnetically without Bluetooth pairing. This allows the tablet to function more like a conventional productivity machine.

Kindle experience comes to the tablets

Amazon is also bringing elements of the Kindle reading experience to its new tablets.

When users open the Kindle app, notifications can be silenced and blue light reduced. Amazon claims up to 20 hours of reading battery life.

Users can choose between three display themes. They can also highlight, underline and annotate books.

On the 12 Pro, the Pro Pen can be used for handwritten notes and page markups. Annotations can also sync across supported Kindle apps and Kindle Scribe devices.

Alexa+ is at the centre of the experience

Alexa+ is built into all three tablets. Users can activate it by saying “Alexa” or tapping the Ask Alexa button.

The assistant can answer questions, suggest actions and control compatible smart-home devices without forcing users to leave what they are doing.

Amazon is also introducing On-Screen Intelligence. With the feature enabled, Alexa can analyse what is displayed on the screen and provide contextual assistance.

For example, users can ask Alexa to compare information on a webpage or add dates from a schedule to their calendar.

Amazon says these features are opt-in. On-Screen Intelligence is disabled by default, and a visual indicator appears when Alexa is active.

Tablet 11 and Tablet 8 focus on entertainment and portability

The Alexa Tablet 11 comes with an 11-inch 2.5K display. It supports a 90Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio.

The tablet uses an eight-core processor with 8GB RAM and offers up to 15 hours of video playback. It also features dual Dolby Atmos speakers.

Meanwhile, the Alexa Tablet 8 is the smallest model. It gets an 8.7-inch display and weighs 329 grams.

The tablet measures 7.95mm thick and uses an aluminium design. It features an eight-core processor, Wi-Fi 6 and up to 14 hours of video playback.
