How to Use ChatGPT Guide?
OpenAI has launched a new education-focused ChatGPT guide designed specifically for college students in India. The initiative, called ‘Chats for Students in India’, showcases how students can use ChatGPT to study smarter, explore new skills, and make college life easier.
A guide built from real student use cases
The webpage, unveiled on October 27, includes over 50 real-world prompts inspired by students from top Indian institutions like IIT Madras, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), and Delhi Technical Campus.
These sample prompts cover everything from creating study schedules and preparing for exams to researching career paths and even getting hostel cooking advice. Each example opens directly in ChatGPT, allowing students to try the prompts instantly.
According to OpenAI, education has become the number one use case for ChatGPT in India, with students using AI to improve problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity.
Students driving AI-led learning in India
India has emerged as one of ChatGPT’s largest learning communities. As per Mary Meeker’s Internet Trends Report, India contributes 13.5% of global ChatGPT mobile app users — the highest among all nations.
Leah Belsky, OpenAI’s VP of Education, said, “Over 50% of our users in India are under 24. Students are a major audience.” This comes after OpenAI’s launch of its India-first learning accelerator earlier this year, which aimed to empower educators and students with AI-based learning tools.
Five must-try prompts from the new ChatGPT guide
Here are some examples of the ready-to-use prompts featured on the new ChatGPT student guide:
- Prepare for an exam – “I have a [subject] exam and want to score full marks. Teach me everything important for the exam.”
- Generate likely exam questions – “Based on these notes, predict what questions my professor might ask and justify your reasoning.”
- Research a career path – “Do deep research on [career path] and explain how to pursue it in [year].”
- Choose a club – “I’m stuck between choosing [option A] or [option B]. Ask a few clarifying questions, then help me decide.”
- Define a proof of concept – “You are a top project developer. Define a single proof of concept for my idea.”
The guide also includes prompts for drafting a project roadmap, outlining a presentation, finding local food options, and planning affordable commutes.
AI for accessible and practical education
The “Chats for Students in India” page is available to all ChatGPT users for free. Once a user clicks on any prompt, it automatically opens in ChatGPT with the text pre-filled, ready to generate an AI-powered response.
By curating prompts that reflect real college experiences, OpenAI hopes to make AI a practical study partner for millions of Indian students navigating assignments, projects, and future careers.
