Pebble Time 2 Marks The Comeback of an Iconic Smartwatch

Here’s Everything You Need to Know About New Design & Features

Pebble’s iconic smartwatch is making a comeback. The Pebble Time 2 is now official, with a starting price of $225. The device will connect to smartphones via Bluetooth, delivering notifications, music control, and internet access.

From Core Time 2 to Pebble Time 2

Originally announced in March as the Core Time 2, the watch now carries the Pebble name again. Eric Migicovsky’s company, Core Devices, regained the Pebble trademark, bringing back the familiar branding.

Refined Build and New Hardware

The Pebble Time 2 features stainless steel on both front and back, along with steel buttons. A screw-mounted back cover adds durability. Buyers can vote on four final color options.

Key upgrades include a multicolor RGB LED backlight, a second microphone for possible noise cancellation, a compass sensor, and improved water resistance.

Display and Core Specs Remain

The watch retains its 1.5-inch 64-color e-paper touch display with flat hardened glass. It offers a quick-release 22mm strap, 30-day estimated battery life, heart rate monitoring, step and sleep tracking, speaker, and vibration motor.

Pre-Orders and Upgrade Options

Pre-orders are now live at $225. Customers who booked the Core 2 Duo can upgrade to the Time 2 without losing their spot in line. The company will send upgrade surveys in the coming weeks.

A Legacy Reborn: Pebble OS Goes Open Source

Back in January 2025, Google surprised the Pebble community by releasing PebbleOS source code on GitHub. That came after Pebble shut down in 2016, followed by acquisitions by Fitbit and later Google. The open-source release now lets developers revive old Pebble watches and empower new projects. It gives a solid base for repurposing the classic OS, despite missing some proprietary bits like Bluetooth.

In July, the company was able to recover the trademark for the smartwatch.
