Honor Magic V5: world’s thinnest foldable phone
Foldables get slimmer as Honor pushes boundaries again
Honor has officially launched the Magic V5 in China, claiming it as the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone — but there’s a caveat. This title only holds if you don’t count the raised camera bump, and only for the “Ivory White” version.
The Magic V5 measures 8.8mm thick when folded, narrowly beating the Oppo Find N5’s 8.9mm profile. While that 0.1mm difference is almost negligible, the design of the Honor phone gives it a slightly slimmer hand-feel. The curved sides and “special fiber” finish help create that illusion.
However, other versions of the phone, which use fiber or vegan leather, are a tad thicker at 9mm.
The camera bump makes a difference
Honor’s new foldable carries a triple-camera setup that rises noticeably from the back. This camera bump is almost twice the height of the one on the Find N5, slightly diminishing its thinness claims.
Still, the superior camera specs might justify the extra height — offering better sensors and wider apertures across the board.
Beats Oppo when open too
When unfolded, the Magic V5 measures just 4.1mm across the frame, making it slimmer than Oppo’s 4.2mm Find N5. But it’s still not as thin as Huawei’s Mate XT trifold, which reaches just 3.6mm — though only in parts where no USB-C port exists.
Honor is continuing its thin-phone legacy. Its previous model, the Magic V3, also held the title for the thinnest foldable before Oppo’s recent entry.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 could challenge next
Samsung is expected to launch its Galaxy Z Fold 7 next week, with a significantly thinner frame. While it might not beat the Magic V5, it could be close.
And there’s another title in play — Magic V5 might also be the lightest foldable yet, at 217 grams, matching the weight of Vivo’s X Fold 5, which launched last week.
Flagship specs to back the slim design
The Honor Magic V5 is not just about size. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite, backed by up to 16GB of RAM. The phone packs a large 5,820mAh battery, wireless charging, and IP58/IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance.
Both inner and outer displays feature 120Hz LTPO OLED panels, ensuring smooth visuals and vibrant color.
Global release coming soon
The Magic V5 is currently available in China, but Honor has confirmed that a global launch is coming soon. That includes India and key global markets.
With smartphone makers now focusing on fractional design upgrades, foldables may soon reach their physical limits — and it could signal a shift in what drives innovation next.
