Apple Smart Glasses Roadmap: Major Launches Set for 2027

Here’s What to Expect!

Apple has unveiled its roadmap for next-gen head-mounted devices, including Vision headsets and smart glasses. The company is expected to reshape the consumer electronics space, starting with major launches in 2027.

No Major Vision Launch in 2026

Apple will skip new head-mounted device releases in 2026. However, the company is already preparing five confirmed products between 2025 and 2028, according to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Apple has at least seven such devices in development—three in the Vision series and four smart glasses. Two of them are still in the early stage with timelines yet to be confirmed.

Smart Glasses to See Massive Growth in 2027

The most commercially viable product appears to be Apple’s Ray-Ban-style smart glasses. These are scheduled for mass production in mid-2027. With no displays, these glasses will focus on audio playback, video capture, voice control, and gesture support.

Apple aims to ship 3 to 5 million units in 2027. With this push, the global smart glasses market could cross 10 million units that year.

Vision Pro M5 Coming in 2025

A new version of the Vision Pro headset is due in Q3 2025. The update will swap the M2 chip with the M5 processor, while retaining most other specs. The Vision Pro will remain a niche product, aimed at building the ecosystem and testing XR applications.

Vision Air to Arrive in 2027 with a Lightweight Design

Another notable launch is Vision Air, also planned for 2027. It will be over 40% lighter than the Vision Pro and powered by Apple’s flagship iPhone chip. The reduced weight will come from using plastic instead of glass and fewer sensors.

Expect Vision Air to carry a lower price than the current Vision Pro and appeal to a wider audience.

Vision Pro Gen 2 and XR Glasses Slated for 2028

Apple will launch an all-new second-generation Vision Pro in 2028 with a Mac-grade processor and a fresh design. The device will be lighter and more affordable than the current version.

Also coming in late 2028 is a display-enabled XR Glasses model. It will feature color LCoS displays with waveguide optics. Voice control, gesture input, and AI integration will be core features.

Display Accessory Project Put on Hold

Apple has paused development on its tethered display accessory originally set for a 2026 launch. The product faced weight and design challenges, losing its edge against lighter competition. The project may resume after internal review and redesign.

Apple Bets on Smart Glasses as the Next Big Thing

With seven head-mounted products in the pipeline, Apple is clearly positioning itself for the next wave in consumer electronics. While 2026 will be quiet, the years following are expected to bring significant shifts in wearable tech.
