News in Short

  • Samsung is expanding its Android 17-based One UI 9 update to more Galaxy devices.
  • The Galaxy S26 series and 2026 foldables have already received the software.
  • The Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 are now joining the rollout.
  • The Galaxy S24 and S23 series are also expected to receive One UI 9.
  • Update availability can vary by model, market and carrier.

Samsung is expanding the rollout of One UI 9, its Android 17-based software update, to more Galaxy smartphones.

The update first arrived on Samsung’s latest foldables, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8. Samsung then began expanding the software to the Galaxy S26 series in September.

The rollout is now moving further down Samsung’s Galaxy lineup. The Galaxy S25 family, Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 have started receiving the stable update in additional markets.

However, there is no single global release date. Samsung says update availability can differ depending on the device, market and carrier.

These Galaxy phones are getting One UI 9

The stable One UI 9 rollout currently includes the following Galaxy smartphones:

  • Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold8
  • Galaxy Z Flip8
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra
  • Galaxy S26+
  • Galaxy S26
  • Galaxy S25 Ultra
  • Galaxy S25+
  • Galaxy S25
  • Galaxy S25 Edge
  • Galaxy S25 FE
  • Galaxy Z Fold7
  • Galaxy Z Flip7

The Galaxy S25 series began receiving the stable update in South Korea before the rollout expanded to other markets. The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 have also started receiving One UI 9 outside South Korea, including the US.

That does not mean every phone on this list will receive the update on the same day. Samsung is distributing the software in stages.

Galaxy S24 and S23 series are next

Samsung has not published one universal release calendar covering every Galaxy model.

However, the company’s software support commitments point to a wider rollout for older flagship phones.

The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 families are expected to receive Android 17 through One UI 9. Samsung’s own One UI 9 documentation also lists the Galaxy S24, S24 FE, S23 and S23 FE among devices supporting specific One UI 9 features.

Samsung’s documentation also lists the Galaxy Z Fold6, Z Flip6, Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, alongside newer Galaxy Tab models, for specific One UI 9 features.

Importantly, feature support does not necessarily mean that a device has already received the stable update. Samsung can also limit individual features depending on the model and region.

One UI 9 brings new AI and security features

One UI 9 is built on Android 17 and adds Samsung’s own software and Galaxy AI features.

One of the additions is My FanCam, which can track a selected person in recorded video and automatically keep them centred.

Samsung is also adding more customisation to Now Brief. Users can create editable cards around areas such as health, weather and video.

Another addition is Now Nudge, which provides context-aware suggestions based on what users are doing on their Galaxy device.

Samsung is also focusing on security and privacy.

Security Brief can surface warnings about malware, unknown-source apps and unnecessary permissions. Meanwhile, Privacy Alerts use on-device AI to identify potential privacy risks involving app permissions.

Samsung is also expanding tools such as Interpreter, Document Scan and Voice Recorder.

However, not every One UI 9 feature will be available on every compatible Galaxy device.

How to check for the One UI 9 update

Galaxy users can manually check whether the update has reached their device.

Open Settings, select Software update and tap Download and install.

If One UI 9 is available for the device, the phone will show the update and allow users to begin the installation.

If it does not appear, that does not necessarily mean the phone is ineligible. Samsung’s rollout happens in stages, and carrier or regional differences can delay availability.

Samsung’s Android 17 rollout will continue

The One UI 9 rollout is still in its early stages for many Galaxy devices.

Samsung has confirmed that the update will gradually expand to additional Galaxy phones and tablets. Its official documentation already references several older devices, including the Galaxy S23 and S24 families and previous-generation foldables.

For Galaxy owners, the key point is that One UI 9 availability depends on both the phone and the market.

So, even if another user with the same Galaxy model has received Android 17, your device may still have to wait for its regional rollout.
