Google has introduced Googlebook, a new category of laptops designed around Android users.

The company describes it as a laptop built for how people work and create today. It combines the Android technology stack with desktop foundations from ChromeOS.

Googlebook is also designed around Gemini. It aims to connect your laptop with your Android phone instead of treating the two devices separately.

Pre-orders are now open. The starting price is $899, while the laptops will reach shelves on October 4.

Googlebook Brings Premium Hardware From Five Brands

Google is working with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo for the first Googlebook lineup.

The company says these flagship devices will offer different designs and configurations. However, Google is positioning the entire range as a premium laptop category.

Features include aluminum, magnesium alloy and carbon-fibre construction. Some models will offer touchscreens with resolutions up to 2.8K OLED.

The laptops also feature haptic glass trackpads and backlit keyboards.

Intel and Qualcomm processors will power the lineup. Dedicated NPUs capable of more than 45 TOPS will handle on-device AI workloads.

Google claims battery life can reach up to 14 hours.

The company is also bringing back its Glowbar. The exterior light shows startup and battery status. It can also react with animations when users interact with Gemini.

Googlebook Is Designed Around Your Android Phone

Phone integration is one of Googlebook’s biggest features.

Google says the laptop uses a shared Android foundation. This allows users to move between their phone and laptop more easily.

During setup, phone settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks and messages can move to the Googlebook. Google says this transfer uses end-to-end encryption.

The Continue On feature lets users pick up tasks they started on their phone.

The Files app can also access files and photos stored on the connected phone. This removes the need to email files to yourself or search through downloads.

Then there is Cast My Apps. It lets users stream and interact with phone apps inside a desktop window.

Gemini Gets Several New Laptop Features

Googlebook is built specifically around Gemini Intelligence. One of the new features is Magic Pointer. Users can move the cursor to bring Gemini into the current screen context.

For example, Gemini can help organise a calendar or translate text without requiring multiple windows. Google also says Gemini only takes action when the user asks it to. The feature can also be switched off.

Rambler focuses on voice-based productivity. Users can speak their thoughts, notes or action items, and the feature turns them into structured writing. It can also handle multiple languages.

Create My Widget takes a more custom approach. Users can describe the information they want, and the feature generates a desktop widget.

Googlebook Combines Chrome and Android Apps

Googlebook is not limited to Android apps. The laptop includes the desktop version of Chrome with support for extensions. Users can also access millions of Android apps through the Play Store.

Google says many of these apps are optimised for larger screens and mouse-and-keyboard input. Creative users can run applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and CapCut.

Streaming platforms such as Netflix and HBO Max are also supported with offline viewing. For gaming, Google is including a complimentary year of GeForce NOW with every purchase.

Developers also get access to Antigravity, Google’s AI agent development platform. A full terminal environment supports tools such as Claude Code and Antigravity CLI.

Security and Pricing

Googlebook uses a security architecture based on ChromeOS. It includes Google’s Titan hardware root of trust and on-device malware detection. Google is also highlighting a Level 5 security-certified pKVM hypervisor. It powers an isolated Linux environment with terminal access.

This allows developers to use Linux tools, access code repositories and run autonomous agents in an isolated environment.

Googlebook starts at $899. Every laptop also includes 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced tools. Buyers also get three months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop, among other benefits.

Google says Googlebook OS will receive regular feature drops and updates for up to 10 years.
