Samsung could be keeping a familiar camera setup on the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, according to a new leak.

The latest information comes from Roland Quandt, who claims the flagship will feature a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. The camera is reportedly based on a Sony sensor.

The information adds to an ongoing disagreement around the phone’s telephoto camera.

An earlier rumour claimed Samsung could introduce a new 4x optical zoom telephoto camera. That camera was said to use a larger 1/1.9-inch-type sensor.

However, another report later rejected the claim and suggested that Samsung would retain the 5x optical zoom telephoto camera used on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The latest leak now points towards the 5x setup rather than the rumoured 4x camera.

If accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could therefore continue with a similar telephoto approach instead of switching to a shorter optical zoom range.

Ultrawide camera could remain at 50MP

The telephoto camera may not be the only part of the setup that stays familiar.

According to the latest leak, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a 50MP ultrawide camera. This would match the resolution of the ultrawide camera on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The bigger camera change could come at the front.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is reportedly getting a 16MP selfie camera with autofocus. The Galaxy S26 Ultra has a 12MP selfie camera, making this a potential resolution upgrade.

Autofocus could also give the front camera more flexibility for selfies and video calls, although the leak does not provide further details about the sensor or lens.

Galaxy S27 Ultra may get M16 OLED display

Samsung is also expected to bring its M16 OLED panel to the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

The M16 is Samsung’s newer-generation OLED technology and is expected to offer improvements over previous display panels. However, the supplied information does not confirm the complete display specifications for the S27 Ultra.

On the performance side, the phone is reportedly expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro in at least some markets.

There have also been reports of an Exynos 2700-powered version being developed for certain markets. Samsung has not officially confirmed the processor configurations.
