WhatsApp could soon make it easier for iPhone users to manage multiple phone numbers from one app.

The messaging platform is reportedly working on support for up to three accounts on iOS. The feature would allow users to add a third WhatsApp account alongside two existing profiles.

WhatsApp introduced multi-account support on iPhone earlier this year. That update allowed users to keep two accounts within the same app.

Now, a report from WABetaInfo suggests that Meta is working on extending the limit to three accounts.

The development could be useful for people who maintain separate numbers for personal, work and other communication needs.

Third WhatsApp account could work without logging out

The reported feature appears to use the same account selector already available for multiple accounts.

Once users have two accounts active, a new “Add account” option could appear in the selector. Users could then add another profile and switch between the three accounts from the same WhatsApp application.

Each account would reportedly retain its own data and settings. This includes chat history, notifications, privacy settings, backups and media.

The account selector could display the name, profile picture and phone number associated with each profile. A green checkmark would indicate the account currently in use.

This means users would not need to repeatedly log out and log back in when switching between accounts.

WhatsApp could support more accounts later

The three-account limit may not necessarily be the final number.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp could potentially increase the number of supported accounts in a future update. However, there is no confirmation from WhatsApp about plans beyond three accounts.

The feature could also offer an alternative to using WhatsApp Business simply to manage an additional number.

For users with multiple phone numbers, keeping everything inside one application could make account management simpler. It could also reduce the need to maintain separate apps for different WhatsApp profiles.

Third account feature is still under development

There is an important limitation to the current report. WhatsApp has not yet made the third-account feature available to beta testers.

The feature is still under development, which means its design or availability could change before a wider release.

There is also no confirmed date for when iPhone users will receive the functionality.

For now, iPhone users can continue using WhatsApp’s existing multi-account feature where supported. The reported third-account option could eventually expand that capability to three profiles within the same app.
