News in Short

  • FiiO has launched its first gaming headset, the FG3, in India.
  • It uses coaxial 50mm and 16mm dynamic drivers with a two-way electronic crossover.
  • The headset supports a custom 7.1 virtual surround mode.
  • It offers six audio modes and a 10-band custom EQ.
  • The FG3 comes with a detachable ENC microphone and hardware-based sidetone.
  • It is priced at Rs. 6,999 and is available exclusively through Headphone Zone.

FiiO has entered the gaming headset market for the first time with the FG3, bringing the audio company’s HiFi-focused approach to a category dominated by gaming-specific brands.

Priced at Rs. 6,999, the new headset focuses heavily on its audio hardware. Instead of relying primarily on software processing, the FG3 uses a coaxial dual-driver setup designed to deliver a more precise soundstage for gaming.

The headset is now available in India exclusively through Headphone Zone.

FiiO FG3 uses two coaxial dynamic drivers

The biggest talking point of the FG3 is its 50mm and 16mm dynamic driver configuration.

Both drivers sit on the same axis, creating what FiiO describes as a single sound source. An electronic two-way crossover divides the audio between them.

The 50mm driver handles the mid and low frequencies, while the smaller 16mm driver takes care of higher frequencies. This setup is designed to keep different parts of the audio spectrum separated while maintaining positional information.

That can be particularly useful in competitive games, where identifying the direction of footsteps, reloads and other movement sounds can make a difference.

DAC and DSP focus on gaming performance

The FG3 also includes a dual-core DSP chip for its audio processing. It is paired with a DAC capable of decoding audio at up to 192kHz/24-bit.

A dedicated headphone amplifier provides up to 80mW of output power.

FiiO has designed the audio pipeline with gaming latency in mind, while still supporting its surround and EQ processing.

Six audio modes included

The headset comes with six dedicated sound profiles:

  • FPS: Designed to bring positional details such as footsteps forward.
  • ACT: Adds more impact for action games.
  • MOBA: Focuses on ability cues and voice clarity.
  • MUG: Tuned for rhythm games and timing-sensitive audio.
  • Cinema: Expands the sound presentation for movies and larger action sequences.
  • Music: Offers a more balanced profile for regular listening.

The FG3 also includes a custom 7.1 virtual surround algorithm. Interestingly, FiiO has limited the surround feature to the Cinema and ACT modes.

For competitive gaming, the company says additional surround processing can potentially interfere with positional information. Keeping it disabled in FPS and MOBA modes therefore puts the focus on clearer directional cues.

Users can switch between the six audio modes using the inline controls.

10-band EQ works through a web browser

Another useful feature is the FIIO Control WEB platform.

Users do not need to install dedicated software or drivers. Instead, settings can be adjusted through a web browser.

The platform provides a 10-band custom EQ, and users can save their profiles directly to the headset. This means personalised settings can be recalled without having to configure the headset again every time.

The driver-free approach could also be useful when gaming on shared computers.

Detachable microphone with ENC

For multiplayer gaming, the FG3 comes with a detachable microphone featuring an ENC algorithm designed to reduce ambient noise.

The microphone is intended to separate the user’s voice from sounds such as keyboard clicks, mouse movements and background noise.

FiiO has also included hardware-processed real-time microphone monitoring, or sidetone. Users can adjust the sidetone volume through FIIO Control WEB.

A dedicated mute button is included on the inline control, with a red indicator showing when the microphone is muted.

Designed for long gaming sessions

The FG3 uses a closed-back over-ear design and comes with swappable woven mesh and memory foam earpads.

The woven material is designed to improve breathability and resist sweat, which should be useful during extended gaming sessions.

The headset also features a stainless steel headband and a foldable frame.

Connectivity is handled through a Type-C cable, with a USB-A adapter included in the box. The headset can automatically switch between UAC 1.0 and UAC 2.0.

FiiO lists compatibility with Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11, smartphones, laptops, PS4, PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

FiiO FG3 price and availability in India

The FiiO FG3 is priced at Rs. 6,999 in India and is available exclusively through Headphone Zone.

The headset comes with a one-year FiiO warranty covering manufacturing defects.

The launch also marks FiiO’s first move into gaming headsets, giving the company a product aimed at users who want gaming-focused features without moving away from its audio engineering roots.
