OnePlus could be preparing a major hardware upgrade for its next flagship smartphone. The OnePlus 16 has appeared in a fresh leak that points to a larger battery, a faster display and a new Snapdragon flagship chipset.
According to information shared by tipster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming phone could pack a 9,000mAh battery. If that claim turns out to be accurate, the OnePlus 16 would have one of the larger batteries among flagship smartphones.
The same leak also points to a 185Hz display and a potential 200MP main camera. However, OnePlus has not confirmed any of these specifications yet.
OnePlus 16 could get a huge battery upgrade
Battery capacity could become one of the biggest talking points around the OnePlus 16.
The leaked information suggests a 9,000mAh cell, which would represent a substantial increase over the OnePlus 15’s 7,300mAh battery. That is a difference of 1,700mAh between the two generations.
A battery this large could give the OnePlus 16 an advantage for users who spend long hours gaming, streaming video or using mobile data.
However, battery capacity alone does not determine real-world endurance. The processor, display and software optimisation will also play a major role.
185Hz display could push refresh rates higher
The OnePlus 16 is also tipped to feature a display with a refresh rate of up to 185Hz.
That would be another step up from the OnePlus 15, which reportedly features a 165Hz AMOLED display. A higher refresh rate can make animations, scrolling and supported games appear smoother.
The phone is rumoured to feature a 6.78-inch custom BOE Oriental Screen 4.0. The panel could also use X4 luminescent material, although further display specifications remain unconfirmed.
For most everyday users, the jump from 165Hz to 185Hz may not be dramatic. Still, it could help OnePlus position the phone as a performance-focused flagship.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro tipped
Performance could also receive a significant upgrade.
The OnePlus 16 is said to use Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro processor. The leak also mentions an energy-efficient chip from Oppo designed to support low-voltage discharge.
If OnePlus pairs the new Snapdragon platform with the larger battery, the company could focus heavily on sustained performance and power efficiency.
That could be particularly relevant for gamers. A high-end processor combined with a high-refresh-rate display would give the OnePlus 16 a strong performance-focused profile.
200MP camera could be another major upgrade
OnePlus may also make a major change to the primary camera.
The OnePlus 16 is tipped to feature a 200MP main camera with a large sensor. This would be a considerable change from the 50MP primary camera reportedly used on the OnePlus 15.
The leaked camera setup could include a 50MP periscope telephoto and a 50MP ultrawide camera. A 50MP front camera is also reportedly being considered for selfies and video calls.
If these specifications make it to the final phone, the camera system could become one of the more significant upgrades in the OnePlus 16 lineup.
OnePlus 16 launch and price
OnePlus has not confirmed a launch date for the OnePlus 16.
The phone is currently rumoured to launch in China in October, with the 6.78-inch display mentioned above. Previous leaks have also pointed to a starting price of CNY 4,999, which converts to roughly Rs. 71,000.
That pricing should be treated cautiously because regional pricing and final configurations could be very different.
What to expect from the OnePlus 16
The leaked specifications suggest OnePlus could be preparing a flagship that puts considerable emphasis on battery endurance, display speed and performance.
A 9,000mAh battery would be the biggest headline feature. Meanwhile, the 185Hz panel and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro could appeal to users looking for high-end performance.
The potential 200MP camera also indicates that OnePlus may be looking to strengthen its photography credentials.
For now, though, these remain leaked specifications rather than confirmed features. OnePlus has yet to officially reveal the OnePlus 16 or announce its launch timeline.
