Sony is preparing to launch a new Xperia smartphone next week. The company has scheduled an online event for August 25 at 11am JST. Sony has not revealed the phone’s name yet. However, recent leaks point towards the Xperia 10 VIII.

The upcoming smartphone has already appeared in an FCC filing. A Geekbench listing has also revealed some possible hardware details. These leaks suggest Sony could focus on a familiar formula with the new Xperia 10 series model.

Sony Xperia 10 VIII Could Launch Next Week

Sony has created a YouTube livestream for August 25. The event will begin at 11am JST. For viewers in the US, the event will start on August 24 at 10pm ET.

The company has only described the event as a new Xperia product announcement. It has not confirmed the Xperia 10 VIII yet.

Still, several clues point towards the mid-range Xperia phone. The device appeared in an FCC database last month. Its possible model number also matches information from earlier leaks.

Sony could therefore use the August 25 event to introduce the Xperia 10 VIII.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 Could Power the Phone

A Geekbench listing has revealed a Sony device with the model number XQ-GH54. The listing shows a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset and 8GB of RAM.

Earlier leaks linked the same model number with the Xperia 10 VIII. If the information proves accurate, Sony may not change the core performance hardware significantly.

The Xperia 10 VII also used the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 with 8GB RAM. That means Sony could rely on other upgrades to differentiate the new model.

The company may improve the cameras, battery or display. However, Sony has not confirmed any of these changes yet.

3.5mm Headphone Jack Could Return

The FCC listing also reveals some connectivity details. The upcoming Xperia phone could retain a 3.5mm headphone jack. It may also support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6.

Interestingly, the FCC filing does not mention 5G support. It also does not list Wi-Fi 7. This leaves some uncertainty around the phone’s connectivity features.

Sony has not confirmed these specifications, so they should be treated as leaks for now.

Sony Xperia 10 VIII India Launch Remains Unclear

Sony has not announced the price or availability of the upcoming Xperia smartphone. The company has also not confirmed whether it will launch the phone in India or other international markets.

The August 25 event should provide more clarity. Until then, the Xperia 10 VIII remains a likely name rather than a confirmed product.

If Sony uses the same Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip again, the phone will need meaningful improvements elsewhere. The camera and overall design could become key factors in deciding whether the new Xperia offers enough of an upgrade.
