Google has added Nano Banana 2 image generation to Google Earth, allowing users to transform real-world locations into AI-generated visuals with simple text prompts. The feature combines Google Earth’s satellite, aerial and 3D imagery with Google’s latest AI image model, enabling users to reimagine places, recreate historical landmarks and visualise future projects without leaving the map.

The update is now available globally for Google Earth on the web.

Turn real locations into AI-generated visuals

With the new feature, users can zoom into any location in Google Earth, select “Create Image”, and describe what they want to see.

Nano Banana then generates an AI image grounded in the actual geography of the selected location. Unlike standalone AI image generators, the model uses Google Earth’s mapping data to create visuals that match the terrain and surroundings.

Google says the feature can be used for education, architecture, urban planning, travel and creative exploration.

One of the headline features is the ability to visualise historical locations.

Google says Nano Banana can also help professionals visualise projects before construction begins.

Architects and urban planners can generate realistic concepts for shopping districts, parks or residential developments directly within Google Earth.

Homeowners can also preview renovation ideas by placing AI-generated homes, studios or landscaping projects onto real-world properties to see how they might fit into the surrounding environment.

Gemini adds context to AI-generated visuals

Beyond image generation, Google is using Gemini to make the experience more informative.

Users can create custom infographics about landmarks by asking questions such as the history of the Statue of Liberty. Gemini retrieves relevant information, while Nano Banana generates a visual infographic based on the request.

The integration allows users to learn about places without leaving Google Earth.
