News in Short

  • Meta has announced an AI assistant for its Edits video editing app.
  • A desktop version of Edits is also on the way.
  • Creators are getting deeper audience insights and content testing tools.
  • A new Beta tab will offer early access to experimental features.

Meta is expanding Edits with an AI assistant and a desktop version as it pushes deeper into the creator tools market. The updates were revealed during an invite-only creator event in Los Angeles and are designed to make Edits a stronger rival to CapCut.

The Edits app, which launched as a mobile-first video editing platform, is now gaining new AI-powered features, improved analytics, and workflow tools aimed at helping creators produce and optimize content more efficiently.

What Is Changing in the Edits App?

The biggest announcement is the upcoming AI assistant inside Edits. The tool will help creators understand how their content is performing and generate new ideas based on audience behavior.

Meta says the assistant will use Instagram data such as views, audience retention, and engagement patterns. It will explain why certain videos perform better and suggest ways to improve future content. The assistant can also recommend trending audio and content ideas based on previous performance.

The move brings Edits closer to creator tools already available on competing platforms. Both TikTok and YouTube have introduced AI-powered idea generation features to help creators discover trends and plan content.

Why Is Meta Adding an AI Assistant to Edits?

The new assistant appears to serve two goals. First, it helps creators spend less time analyzing data manually. Second, it keeps creators inside Meta’s ecosystem instead of relying on third-party AI tools for brainstorming and performance analysis.

As competition for creator attention intensifies, platforms are increasingly building AI directly into their workflows. By embedding these capabilities into Edits, Meta is making content planning, editing, and optimization part of a single experience.

When Will the Desktop Version of Edits Arrive?

Meta also confirmed that a desktop version of Edits is coming soon.

Until now, Edits has been available only on mobile devices. The desktop release will allow creators to edit videos on larger screens and gain more precise control over their projects. It will also support seamless workflow syncing between desktop and mobile devices.

This addition could help Meta compete more directly with CapCut, which already offers desktop editing software for creators who work on longer or more complex projects.

What New Features Are Available Today?

Several new tools are rolling out immediately.

A new Beta tab gives creators early access to experimental features before wider release. Users can test upcoming tools and provide feedback directly to Meta.

The company is also expanding audience analytics. Creators can now view demographic information and see when their audiences are most active. These insights complement existing metrics such as watch time, viewer drop-off points, and follower growth from specific videos.

Another update improves content discovery. Users can search topics inside the Inspiration feed to find trending reels, templates, and creative ideas. Creators can also build multiple versions of a video and compare performance before publishing.

What Does This Mean for Edits?

Meta has not disclosed how many people use Edits. However, the company says content created with the app sees a 10% higher save rate and a 2% higher reshare rate compared to content produced elsewhere.

With AI assistance, advanced analytics, desktop editing, and experimental feature access, Edits is evolving beyond a basic video editor. As Meta continues investing in creator-focused tools, the platform is positioning Edits as a more complete content creation hub for Instagram users.
