Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8s Gen 4: More Power, Smarter AI & Next-Gen Gaming Features
Qualcomm has officially launched its latest mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, on April 3, 2025. This new processor is designed for high-end smartphones and promises improved speed, efficiency, and gaming features. It is the successor to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which debuted last year.
Interestingly, Qualcomm has chosen to use the Kryo CPU cores in this chip. It does not come with the new Oryon cores, which are part of the more premium Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. This means the 8s Gen 4 is built for performance but still aims to offer a balance between power and price.
Faster, Smarter & More Efficient
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 brings major improvements:
- 31% faster CPU performance
- 49% stronger GPU for gaming
- 44% better AI processing
- 39% more energy-efficient
With these enhancements, users can expect smoother multitasking, better battery life, and AI-driven optimizations for photography and apps.
Next-Level Gaming & Camera Capabilities
Qualcomm has boosted gaming with features like on-device ray tracing, Snapdragon Game Super Resolution 2.0, and Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0. These ensure realistic lighting, smoother animations, and enhanced frame rates.
For photography, the 18-bit triple ISP supports up to 320MP sensors and 4K HDR recording at 60 FPS. AI-driven enhancements refine skin tones, sky colors, and Night Vision 2.0 allows 4K video at 30 FPS in ultra-low light.
Connectivity & AI Features
The chip comes with a Snapdragon X75 5G modem offering 4.2 Gbps peak speeds, though it only supports the sub-6GHz spectrum, not mmWave. Other features include:
- Wi-Fi 7 & Bluetooth 6.0 for faster wireless connections
- On-device GenAI processing for real-time AI tasks like translations and enhanced voice assistants
Which Phones Will Get Snapdragon 8s Gen 4?
Expect this chip in upcoming Xiaomi, Oppo, Redmi, iQOO, and Meizu smartphones. It delivers flagship-like features without the premium price tag, making AI, gaming, and photography more accessible.
Why It Matters
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is a smart move by Qualcomm. Instead of just focusing on raw power, it balances performance, AI, efficiency, and affordability. This means high-end features without sky-high prices, marking a shift in smartphone technology.
