AI Adoption Strengthens India’s Digital Identity Systems
Aadhaar’s artificial intelligence-powered face authentication service hit a record 15.87 crore transactions in June 2025. This reflects a massive leap from 4.61 crore transactions in June last year.
The surge shows how India’s digital ID ecosystem is evolving with AI at its core. According to the Ministry of Electronics and IT, this sharp growth signals increasing confidence in AI-based facial recognition for identity checks.
Overall Aadhaar Authentications Cross 229 Crore in June
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) reported 229.33 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions in June 2025. This marks a 7.8% year-on-year growth across all authentication modes.
UIDAI’s in-house face authentication tech is now a key player in this growth story. It works smoothly across Android and iOS platforms and allows users to verify identity using just their face.
Secure, Fast, and Widely Adopted by Institutions
Over 100 government departments, financial institutions, oil companies, and telecom providers are now using face authentication. It helps them deliver faster, more secure services to millions.
“This not only enhances user convenience but also strengthens the overall security framework,” the ministry said in a statement.
So far, UIDAI’s face authentication has been used nearly 175 crore times, making it central to Aadhaar’s verification tools.
e-KYC Services Also Hit High Usage
Besides face authentication, Aadhaar’s e-KYC service recorded 39.47 crore transactions in June 2025. The service simplifies customer onboarding and compliance in sectors like banking and telecom.
Since Aadhaar began, it has enabled over 15,452 crore authentication transactions. These numbers underline its role as the foundation of digital public infrastructure in India.

With facial authentication on the rise, Aadhaar is playing a bigger role in India’s digital transformation. The system’s AI-driven tools are helping people access welfare schemes, financial services, and mobile connections more easily and securely.
