Perplexity Teases Launch of AI Browser Comet

Perplexity AI, a rising player in AI-powered search, is stepping into the web browser market. The company has announced Comet, an agentic web browser designed to assist users without interrupting their browsing experience. This move puts Perplexity in direct competition with established browsers like Google Chrome and Safari.

What is Comet?

Comet aims to redefine browsing by offering help only when needed. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas explained that Comet would work like GitHub Copilot — helpful, but never intrusive. The browser is expected to simplify how users access information, providing support without distractions.

Although Perplexity has not revealed the release date or detailed features, the announcement has stirred curiosity. Comet could set a new standard for AI-assisted browsing if it delivers on its promise of subtle, on-demand assistance. The company has also announced hirings for Comet.

How Perplexity is Innovating the AI Space?

Perplexity AI is not new to innovation. The company recently open-sourced its R1 1776 model, a fine-tuned version of DeepSeek-R1. This model focuses on delivering factual responses without censorship. The model’s weights are available on Hugging Face and accessible via the Sonar API.

Moreover, Perplexity’s in-house Sonar model is now available to all Pro users. Pro subscribers can set Sonar as their default model, enhancing their search experience.

Deep Research: Making Complex Analysis Easy

Another major development from Perplexity is the launch of Deep Research. This autonomous tool performs multiple searches, analyzes numerous sources, and compiles detailed reports. Deep Research is free for all users, with non-subscribers limited to five daily queries. Pro users enjoy up to 500 daily queries, making it a powerful tool for researchers and professionals alike.

Perplexity AI has also expanded its reach by integrating its app into the Paytm app for both Android and iPhone users. Labeled as ‘Ask AI,’ it sits prominently on the home page, allowing Paytm users to access AI-powered search effortlessly.

The Road Ahead for Comet

With Comet, Perplexity is entering a crowded but evolving web browser market. Competing against giants like Google Chrome and Safari is challenging. However, Comet’s promise of a user-friendly, AI-assisted browsing experience could help it carve a niche.

While details remain scarce, Perplexity’s track record of rapid feature rollouts suggests that Comet could soon become a game-changer. For now, users can join the waitlist and stay tuned for updates.

Comet has the potential to redefine how we browse the web. With additional innovations like the Sonar model and Deep Research, Perplexity is clearly aiming for a bigger slice of the AI-powered tools market.
