AI Editing Comes to Instagram Stories
Meta is now rolling out AI-powered photo and video editing tools directly inside Instagram Stories. These tools let you type what you want to change in your photo or video—whether it’s adding something new, removing an object, or completely transforming the image.
Earlier, Meta AI’s editing features were available only through chats with the Meta AI bot. But now, users can access them directly from the Instagram app, making the process faster and easier for everyone.
Where to Find the New AI Tools
The new editing tools are located in the “Restyle” menu inside Instagram Stories. To use them, open a Story and tap the paintbrush icon at the top. Then, choose from options like Add, Remove, or Change to describe what you want done.
For example, you can type a prompt such as “add a crown,” “change hair color to blue,” or “remove the background.” The AI will automatically make the changes to your image or video.
Creative Presets and Effects
Besides prompts, Instagram also offers preset effects for a quick style update. You can choose filters that change your outfit, add accessories, or apply creative looks like a watercolor or sketch effect.
If you’re editing a video, the AI can even make it look like it’s snowing, or add effects such as flames or glowing lights. This makes Stories more fun and creative without needing third-party apps.
Meta AI Terms and Privacy
When using these tools, Instagram users agree to Meta’s AI Terms of Service. These terms allow Meta to analyze uploaded photos and videos, including facial features, to generate or modify content.
According to Meta, the AI “summarizes image contents, modifies images, and creates new versions based on the uploaded media.” So, users should be aware of how their content is processed while using these new tools.
Meta’s Ongoing Push for AI
Meta has been actively expanding AI features across its apps. It recently tested a “Write with Meta AI” prompt that helps users craft clever comments.
In September, the company also launched “Vibes,” an AI-generated video feed inside the Meta AI app. According to Similarweb, this update helped boost the app’s daily active users to 2.7 million by mid-October, up from around 775,000 a month earlier.
To ensure safer use of AI features, Meta introduced new parental controls this month. These allow parents to restrict or monitor AI chatbot interactions for teens.
A New Way to Create on Instagram
With AI editing now integrated into Stories, Instagram is taking another big step toward making creative tools accessible to everyone. Whether you want to tweak your photo, change your background, or turn a simple clip into something cinematic, all it takes is a few words.
