MediaTek has introduced the new Kompanio 540, a next-generation processor designed for affordable and efficient student Chromebooks. The chip promises superior power efficiency, enabling longer battery life and a fanless design for quieter, cooler, and lighter laptops.

Starting January 2026, Chromebooks powered by MediaTek Kompanio 540 will reach classrooms and homes, aiming to redefine how students learn and create in a digital-first world.

Octa-core power meets classroom performance

At its core, the MediaTek Kompanio 540 runs on an octa-core processor featuring two high-performance Arm Cortex-A78 CPUs. It’s paired with a dual-core graphics engine, LPDDR5 memory, and UFS 3.1 storage support for fast and responsive performance.

These specs translate to smoother multitasking, whether students are switching between tabs, editing projects, or exploring STEM-based applications like Tinkercad and Minecraft Education Edition. The focus is on giving users reliable speed without compromising portability or battery life.
