Truecaller Now Wants to Protect Entire Households from Scam Calls
Truecaller is taking a bold step as scam activity rises worldwide. The company has launched Family Protection, a new tool designed to shield entire households from coordinated fraud attempts. The move signals a major shift for Truecaller, which now aims to become more than a caller ID app.
Why Truecaller Created a Household Scam Shield
Scam patterns have changed fast. Fraudsters no longer target only one person. Instead, they hit multiple family members with missed calls, fake alerts, and impersonation attempts. Truecaller says households have become easy targets because scammers search for one weak link.
Therefore, the company built Family Protection. It allows up to five people to join a family group. One member acts as the administrator and handles scam-blocking settings for everyone. This design helps less tech-savvy users stay protected without doing anything extra.
How Family Protection Works
Truecaller makes the feature simple for families. On Android, the administrator gets alerts during suspected scam calls. They can also see basic device status such as battery levels. Additionally, they can end calls remotely if the app flags them as fraudulent.
The system works in real time. Truecaller says it detects 63 million scam attempts each day. Its community also reports more than 166 million spam calls daily. These numbers help the company spot new fraud patterns quickly.
Where the Feature Is Rolling Out First
Family Protection is launching as a pilot in Sweden, Chile, Malaysia, and Kenya. Truecaller plans a wider expansion soon. India, its biggest market, will get the feature in early 2026.
Although it is free, families can upgrade to the Premium Family plan. This unlocks stronger spam defense, ad-free use, and automatic rejection of high-risk calls.
What This Means for the Market
India is testing a Caller Name Presentation system that shows telecom-verified names on incoming calls. This creates new competition for Truecaller. Therefore, the company is moving fast and adding features that go beyond caller ID.
“With Family Protection, one person’s vigilance now strengthens safety for up to five family members,” said CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala.
