Anthropic to Track the Economic Fallout Due to AI

Economic Futures Program to Study AI Led Job Disruption

As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, concerns about its impact on human jobs are growing louder. Many industries are already seeing shifts in how work is done, and Anthropic is stepping in to understand this better.

The AI research company has introduced a new initiative called the Economic Futures Program. It aims to track AI’s economic influence, especially on employment and labor markets.

A Program Built to Answer Urgent Economic Questions

Anthropic says the goal of the program is simple: use data to support better research and guide policy decisions.

This initiative will expand upon Anthropic’s existing Economic Index, a tool launched earlier to monitor how AI is being used in the workforce. Now, the new program takes this a step further by funding research and hosting global policy forums.

Three Key Pillars of the Economic Futures Program

The Economic Futures Program will operate across three focus areas:

  • Research Grants: These include rapid funding up to $50,000, API credits, and institutional partnerships. The aim is to support empirical research on AI’s effect on labor, productivity, and value creation.
  • Evidence-Based Policy: Anthropic will organize symposia in Washington, DC and Europe. These events will invite researchers to present policy ideas backed by real-world data. Proposals are due by July 25, 2025.
  • Economic Data and Measurement: The program will also expand the Economic Index to build public datasets tracking AI’s economic role over time.

Why Anthropic Thinks This Work Matters Now?

The timing is no accident. With AI tools spreading fast across sectors, there’s growing uncertainty about which jobs are at risk. Some workers are being displaced, while others are seeing their productivity rise thanks to AI.

Anthropic argues that without proper data, much of the debate around AI’s impact remains speculative. The company wants to provide a clearer picture through transparent research and regular public data releases.

Anthropic to Fund Global Research and Partner with Institutions

To build a deeper understanding, Anthropic is offering Economic Futures Research Awards. These grants are available on a rolling basis starting mid-August.

The company is also inviting research institutions to collaborate. Selected partners will receive support in the form of API credits and research resources.

Interested institutions can apply by emailing their proposals to economicfutures@anthropic.com.
