Remedy Entertainment Introduces Altered Augments in Firebreak – A Thrilling Paranatural Twist!

Altered Augments in Firebreak – A Paranatural Twist!

Exciting news for fans of the Control universe! Remedy Entertainment has unveiled a brand-new feature in its upcoming multiplayer shooter, Firebreak – Altered Augments. These paranatural weapons add a chaotic and thrilling element to gameplay, promising intense cooperative battles.

With Firebreak set to launch in Summer 2025 on PlayStation 5, players can look forward to experiencing this supernatural action firsthand. Here’s everything you need to know about the game and its latest reveal.

What is Firebreak?

Firebreak is a cooperative first-person shooter designed for three players, set within the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), a mysterious government agency combating paranormal threats. This marks Remedy Entertainment’s first foray into multiplayer gaming, offering an accessible and casual-friendly experience where players can simply team up with friends and enjoy the chaos without worrying about daily logins or rewards.

Players take on the role of Firebreakers, elite combat engineers tasked with handling supernatural crises deep within The Oldest House. Armed with powerful weapons and bizarre gadgets, players must fight back against waves of extradimensional threats while customizing their gear and leveling up.

What Are Altered Augments?

In Firebreak, the Federal Bureau of Control has developed weapons out of paranormal objects, known as Altered Augments. While highly powerful, these artifacts carry unpredictable effects, making every encounter unique and sometimes hazardous – even for allies!

Each Altered Augment enhances a specific Crisis Kit, providing players with new strategies and unexpected twists in combat. Let’s take a look at some of the standout Altered Augments.

Meet the Altered Augments

The Garden Gnome (AI9) – A Tiny but Deadly Companion

At first glance, it looks like an ordinary garden gnome, but this Altered Augment brings electrifying power to the battlefield. It attaches to the Electro-Kinetic Charge Impactor, allowing players to launch it at enemies. Upon landing, the gnome summons a lightning storm, stunning foes and draining surrounding energy sources.

However, the gnome has a mind of its own—it wanders around unpredictably, affecting both enemies and teammates. Use it wisely, or embrace the chaos!

The Piggy Bank (AI16) – A Paranatural Coin Storm

This Augment attaches to the Wrench, turning it into a devastating melee weapon. With each swing, the Piggy Bank shatters, unleashing a tornado of paranatural coins that deal heavy damage. Fortunately, the Piggy Bank magically reassembles itself after the attack.

Be careful, though! The swirling coins don’t discriminate between friend and foe, so positioning is key.

The Teapot (AI44) – Boiling Chaos

When attached to the Crank-Operated Fluidic Ejector (COFE), the Teapot allows players to fire scalding hot water at enemies. This causes the burning condition, ensuring sustained damage over time.

Interestingly, this modification prevents the COFE from overheating, but it also means friendly fire is enabled. Additionally, while it can remove the cold condition, it offers no relief from other ailments. And no, tea lovers, it doesn’t actually brew tea!

What This Means for Players

With Altered Augments, Firebreak promises an experience that’s both fun and unpredictable. The combination of strategic gameplay and paranormal absurdity means players will need to adapt and think fast while laughing at the inevitable friendly-fire mishaps.

Remedy Entertainment’s decision to create a game that focuses on fun, not grind, is a refreshing take in the multiplayer space. There’s no FOMO or daily rewards, just pure, action-packed co-op gameplay to enjoy with friends.

When Can You Play Firebreak?

Firebreak is set to launch in Summer 2025 exclusively for PlayStation 5. Even better, it will be available on day one for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members.

With a 50-person development team hard at work, Remedy Entertainment is crafting an experience that stays true to the beloved Control universe while bringing something fresh to the multiplayer genre.

Expect more reveals in the coming months, but one thing is certain – Firebreak is shaping up to be an exciting, chaotic, and paranormally thrilling adventure!
