Nintendo Adds Killer Instinct Gold to Switch Online’s N64 Library

Another knockout for fans of retro brawlers

Nintendo is once again feeding fans of nostalgia and pixel-perfect punches with its latest addition to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack: Killer Instinct Gold. Originally released in 1996 for the Nintendo 64, this classic Rare fighting game is now playable for all Expansion Pack subscribers.

What’s in the game?

The Killer Instinct tournament is back, says Nintendo’s official description and it’s loaded with all the high-octane, combo-heavy action that made the original a cult hit. Players can choose from 10 fighters and enter explosive game modes such as classic Arcade, Team battle, and a Tournament mode for up to eight players.

For those looking to sharpen their skills, a Training mode is also included. It may come in handy, mastering hundreds of moves and pulling off the iconic 70-hit Ultra Combo requires serious dedication. Of course, the ever-satisfying “C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER” is ready to ruin your run if you’re not careful.

More Rare classics, more reasons to subscribe

Killer Instinct Gold joins a growing list of Rare-developed N64 games available to Switch Online + Expansion Pack members. The current roster includes Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Blast Corps, Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark, and GoldenEye 007. Each title adds a dose of classic game history to Nintendo’s retro lineup.

Meanwhile in Japan…

On the same day, Nintendo also added Ridge Racer 64 to the Japanese version of its Switch Online N64 library. The racing title had already been made available to players in other regions in an earlier update.

No signs of slowing down

Nintendo’s continued expansion of its Switch Online + Expansion Pack catalog shows its commitment to bringing timeless titles back to life for a new generation and giving long-time fans a reason to return. With each new drop, Nintendo strengthens its retro gaming library, keeping its legacy titles just a few clicks away.
