After Fold, It’s Time for Tri-Fold Display: Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept Unveiled

The Phone May Launch Officially After MWC 2026

Tecno has taken the foldable smartphone race a notch higher. On July 17, 2025, the Chinese smartphone maker officially unveiled the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept, a tri-fold smartphone designed for multitasking. This concept device is set to be showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026.

Tri-fold Display That Unfolds Into 9.94 Inches

The most striking feature of the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept is its tri-fold display. When fully unfolded, the device becomes a large 9.94-inch tablet-like phone. Tecno claims that the thickness varies from 11.49mm when folded to just 3.49mm when unfolded, making it ultra-thin in tablet form.

The company calls this form factor a “G-Style” design, enabling two inward folds that protect the screen completely when the phone is not in use.

Dual-Hinge Design That Mimics a Book

Tecno has developed a custom dual-hinge system for the G Fold. It combines a smaller waterdrop hinge and a larger main hinge. The smaller hinge folds the right portion of the screen inward — similar to a book. The larger hinge then folds the remaining part over the top.

This dual-action not only enhances durability but also allows the device to stay compact when closed and expansive when open.

Hover Mode for Partial Folding

The hinge design also supports multi-angle hovering, allowing the device to stay in a partially folded state. This makes it more versatile for watching videos, attending calls, or using split-screen apps.

A dual-camera system embedded in the hinge supports this functionality while also enabling hands-free usage in some modes.

Big Battery, Better Usability

The Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept is expected to house a battery over 5,000 mAh, which is necessary for the large tri-fold display and multi-tasking functions.

The phone will also include a triple-camera system on the rear, though Tecno has not shared full hardware details yet.

Follows Up on Previous Tri-fold Innovation

Tecno first revealed a tri-fold concept phone — the Phantom Ultimate 2 — back in 2024. That device was displayed at MWC 2025. The new Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept builds on that vision, adding refinements in folding technology, design, and usability.

This new concept confirms that Tecno aims to position itself not just as a budget smartphone maker but also as an innovator in future mobile form factors.
