Subtle Launches AI Earbuds That Kill Noise and Fix Voice Calls

Key Highlights:

  • The earbuds focus on clear calls and accurate voice transcription
  • They cost $199 and include a one-year app subscription
  • Subtle claims far fewer transcription errors than AirPods Pro 3

Voice AI startup Subtle is stepping into consumer hardware with a clear goal. It wants to make voice usable everywhere. Even in noisy rooms. The company has unveiled its first pair of wireless earbuds that focus on voice clarity, noise isolation, and real-time transcription.

Subtle announced the earbuds just ahead of CES 2026 in Las Vegas. The company plans to ship them in the US within the next few months. The earbuds are priced at $199 and include a one-year subscription to Subtle’s iOS and macOS app.

How AI Earbuds Work

Subtle built its reputation on voice isolation models. These models help computers understand speech in loud environments. Now, the same technology sits inside its earbuds.

The earbuds pair with a companion app that lets users record voice notes or chat with AI hands-free. There is no need to tap a screen or press a button. A custom chip inside the earbuds can even wake a locked iPhone to start recording.

As a result, voice becomes instant and natural. This design targets professionals, creators, and anyone who relies on quick voice input.

Clear Voice Even in Chaos

During a demo shared with TechCrunch, Subtle’s earbuds handled heavy background noise with ease. They also picked up whispered speech clearly. This is where Subtle sees its biggest advantage.

The company claims its earbuds deliver five times fewer transcription errors than AirPods Pro 3 when paired with OpenAI’s transcription model. That claim puts Subtle directly against established audio giants.

Challenging Voice Dictation Apps

Subtle is not just selling earbuds. It is also taking on AI dictation apps like Wispr Flow, Willow, Monologue, and Superwhisper. Unlike software-only tools, Subtle combines hardware and AI models into one system.

Users can dictate text in any app using the earbuds. They can also switch between voice notes and AI chats without changing tools. Subtle says this all-in-one approach makes voice practical in public spaces.

Funding, Partners, and Availability

The company has raised $6 million so far. It has also worked with companies like Qualcomm and Nothing to deploy its noise isolation models. These partnerships add weight to its consumer push.

The earbuds are available for pre-order on Subtle’s website. Buyers can choose between black and white color options.

As voice slowly replaces typing, Subtle wants its earbuds to be the bridge between humans and machines.
