- Samsung rolls out Samsung One UI 8.5 beta with a redesigned Bixby
- Bixby now understands intent, not commands
- Real-time web search works inside the assistant interface
Samsung has introduced a redesigned Bixby with Samsung One UI 8.5, turning it into a conversational device agent that controls Galaxy devices using natural language. The update is rolling out through a beta program and focuses on faster device control and real-time web answers.
Samsung Electronics announced the update on February 20, 2026. The new Bixby is designed to reduce friction in everyday phone usage by understanding intent instead of fixed commands. The rollout includes India and several global markets.
What changes with Bixby in Samsung One UI 8.5?
With Samsung One UI 8.5, Bixby no longer depends on users remembering exact setting names. Instead, it responds to natural conversation.
Users can describe what they want in simple language. Bixby then finds the relevant setting and applies it instantly. This removes the need to dig through menus or learn system terminology.
For example, asking Bixby to keep the screen awake while looking at it automatically activates the correct display option. The assistant interprets intent, not keywords.
How does conversational device control work?
Bixby now functions as a device-aware agent. It understands what is happening on the phone and responds accordingly.
If a user asks why the screen stays on inside a pocket, Bixby checks the device context. It then surfaces related settings like accidental touch protection. Users can enable features directly from the response screen.
According to Won-Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of the MX Business at Samsung Electronics:
“Since we introduced our first AI phone in 2024, we’ve been committed to making them easier to use so more people can benefit from AI — that’s why we decided to integrate a device agent directly into the experience.”
Does Bixby now search the web in real time?
Yes. Bixby now supports live web search directly inside its interface.
Users can ask questions that require up-to-date information. The results appear without opening a browser or switching apps. This keeps interactions focused and continuous.
For instance, users can search for family-friendly hotels or local information and explore results within Bixby itself.
